About me

Hello, my name is Stephen. I have been actively GM-ing for about 7 years and mostly play D&D 5e. I have played most of the other D&D editions and love playing any board/card game. I regularly host D&D sessions with my friends and have created a realm and Discord server that is continuously evolving with each session. I enjoy teaching new players the ropes of D&D and watching players get hooked and fall in love with the roleplaying, the dice rolling, and the community it can create. I love to build, create, and indulge my player's crazy ideas (Rule of Cool all the way!). My sessions usually aim to be a 50/50 balance of combat and roleplay, but I adjust based on the player's preferences. My goal is to give any new players a platform to dip their toes, play the game, have epic moments, and make mistakes. I am LGBTQIA2+ friendly and aim to deliver an inclusive platform where everyone can have the opportunity to play. I look forward to meeting new players, watching them grow, and gain some inspiration from them in the process.

Character creation

Creating your character

Since I am expecting beginners, character creation will happen during session 0 so if there are any questions or issues then we can sort through it all together. You will be starting at Level 1. I recommend at least giving the D&D 5e 2024 edition Player's Handbook a look through just to get an idea of how the character creation process works.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have accounts on Discord to access their party's server where the party can ask questions and communicate. Roll20 to access the battle maps so they can see a visual representation of locations and encounters.

What Stephen brings to the table

I do a lot of voices and vocal sound effects. I usually run the campaign following the Rule as Written, but will defer to the Rule of Cool (a lot) whenever a player suggests doing something objectively awesome! There will be an even mix of roleplay and combat, the dice will ultimately determine how heated a battle or conversation will become!

Homebrew rules

I treat rolling a 20 as the best possible result of an action, and rolling a 1 as the worst possible result of an action. To drink a potion yourself: uses a bonus action. Critical Hits: I treat as being impactful and devastating so when you roll damage, you roll the dice then add the maximum possible value you can roll to that damage (Example: 1d6+3, roll = 4, damage = 4+3+6 = 13). [I will explain this rule again in session 0]

Safety

How Stephen creates a safe table

These will be discussed in our session 0. I will be posting a Consent Checklist in the party's Discord server so I know what topics to avoid and what I can include. Take breaks when you feel you need to. After each session we will take about 5-10 minutes to debrief, see how everyone is doing, and answer any questions you may have!
