About the adventure

Phandelver and Below is a reimagined and expanded version of the classic DnD 5e adventure! Come with me in the Forgotten Realms, the quintessential DnD setting as we go on an adventure from levels 1 to 12. A great adventure for both new and veteran players, this adventure will include cool custom loot and I'll do my best to incorporate elements that incorporate your character's backstory. Don't feel afraid to come up with out-of-the-box solutions to the problem you'll face. I have no issue with making adjustments to the source material so we can chart our course! Your characters will venture to the beloved town of Phandalin, where an evil cult threatens to overtake the region. This adventure is a classic dungeon crawl with a hint of horror. There are many mysteries to uncover and growing corruption to face.

About me

I've been DMing for 8 years now and professionally DMing for over 2. I want to make collaborative stories with my players! I'm here to present challenging situations with hard-hitting feelings that allow people to explore a world and characters while walking away with memories that they can look back on and share with others. My tables are inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly! I have a lot of experience with 5e and Pathfinder 2e, but I'm always interested and excited to learn new systems. I have a lot of experience playing with new and old players and parties with mixed experience levels. I've worked on quite a bit of homebrew content and love making new and unique rewards for the efforts my players put into our adventures.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll be having a free session 0 where players can discuss character concepts with me and other players. I'll be available through it to answer questions on how to make characters and work the system and will be available to schedule one on one instructions before session 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a mic and a discord account!

What James Layton brings to the table

We'll be using the Foundry VTT, but I'm open and able to use Theater of the mind if that is what players prefer! You'll find that Foundry supports a lot of maps/tokens and lots of options for customization. I like to do character voices and utilize different music as a way to set the scene. You'll find that at my table we'll be operating on a mix of Rule of Cool and Rules as intended, depending on how feasible a course of action might be in a particular instance.

How James Layton creates a safe table

We're going to have a session 0, where we will talk about character creation and fill out a form for any sort of trigger a player might have. The VTT we use will have an X card button for when games are being played, and for sessions over 2 hours a break will be provided halfway through. Players will be prompted for any kind of suggestions at the end of the session and they are welcome to talk to me over text any time between sessions if anything happens.
