About the adventure

"Everything has an expiration date. Even vampires. Just because we're undead it doesn't mean we actually get to go on forever. I think someone's forgotten that part. Worse than that, someone's encouraging them. There are those who now walk through the valley of the Shadow of death, and they should stay there. For all our sakes, they should stay there." Yes, this game uses a blend of V20 and Revised. One is primary with the other to fill in some gaps and/or provide some better/more appropriate options. New players can join in at any point in the campaign. Characters from a Camarilla Clan, a bloodline of a Camarilla Clan, or some Independent Clans that will work with the group and not betray the others are preferable. Since this is Vampire: The Masquerade there will be mature content. The overall campaign length would likely only be around 4-6 sessions. In regards to the content warning, some of them are going to be present because of the game world or genre of the game. Others might be present and are listed just in case, but are not absolutely guaranteed to be present.

About me

I have been a player and game master for several games for over 30 years. I have a home-brew background as well as a published TTRPG background. I tend to stick with older games, as I am often not fond of the newer versions. My style is partially scripted and partially off-the-cuff. I tend to be tough, but I always try to be fair. I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes. If I make one, let me know and I will rectify it. I have been know to chuck rules I don't like, or at least modify them (and make you know about them up front!) so that they are less unfavorable. I want my players to feel challenged, but still have fun. I prefer role-playing and not roll-playing. I am cool with new players and veterans. I stick to older editions of multiple games mainly because I actually prefer them over the newer editions as opposed to being too cheap to upgrade. That said, I am not above running a game in an edition I am not fond of, but I tend to charge more for it as the trade off.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players need to fully create their characters prior to the start of their first session. All characters are to be either neonates or ancilla. Players are only allowed to use the main players' guide in either V20 or Revised, the Camarilla guide from Revised, and 2nd. and Revised edition Clan books of their character's Clan. Starting points +20 freebie points instead of 15 freebie points. The Unbondable and Iron Will Merits as well as most Supernatural Merits/Flaws are not allowed. Maximum Willpower rating of 7. Players looking to play an Independent Clan, the bloodline of an Independent Clan, or an obscure bloodline of a Camarilla Clan must come up with a VERY good prelude just to be considered. Even then, the player might be told no. Warriadors are an automatic veto. No non-physical Discipline above dot 3. 10-13th generation. Also, if I can't verify the existence of a merit/flaw/power, it will be vetoed. Lastly, no Sabbat infiltrators or Anarchs. Defectors from the Sabbat will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Though they are free to do so, players are not recommended to pick a Follower of Set, Giovanni, or Tremere. There are in-game reasons for this.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a microphone so that you can communicate with the Storyteller and the other players. You don't need to have your camera active. Discord will be used to do verbal communication. If you do not build your character with me, you must also include a list of where you spent your freebie points.

What JP McClendon brings to the table

The ST provides blank fillable character sheets upon request. The ST always tries to give each and every named NPC their own voice in one way or another, either through the use of voices or dialogue. Some rules will be strictly adhered to, while others with a gray area are open to interpretation. I will gladly teach the basic rules if necessary. Also, my Discord server has a VTM dice roller if players do not have dice of their own. I am also readily available to assist with any and all character builds. My Discord server also has numerous pages on it regarding the various NPCs present in my game world as well as a section devoted to the PCs.

Safety

How JP McClendon creates a safe table

All content warnings are just in case, given that this is Vampire. I will ask the players at the end of the session if anything flagged or triggered. Granted, players are free to alert me on the spot if something comes up that makes them uneasy. I don't seek to upset anyone, but I am trying to be proactive, just in case. This game is about role-playing and investigation. Combat is not a guarantee.
