About the adventure
This game is geared toward jumpstarting a new player into Dungeons and Dragons. The first session you play I will walk you through character creation at whatever speed works with you. I can help develop the questions you want to ask to develop an interesting character and I can help focus the main rules and not worry about the smaller things. Overall, the main goal is for everyone to have fun and enjoy their time at the table. This is a game where there is not pressure to keep playing, but an ongoing story will be available if you enjoy the setting. Somnecce is the capital city of a small mercantile kingdom in a land aptly known as the Thousand Kingdoms. After the fall of Anatoly some 50 years ago, Somnecce capitalized on its expansive ports to absorb the trade from Anatoly's prosperous desert and merfolk partners. Money has brought about luxury, and Somnecce has spend decades fostering the arts. Art galleries, Opera Houses, Masquerades, Wonderous Engineers, and Museums have become staples for the upper class. Where there is money a luxury though, there is also greed and control. In the heart of the city, spies, thieves, and assassins play the social scene like a violin for their patrons. Ladies and Lords vie for the most distinguished spot they can maintain without being a target for annihilation. The party with their skills have a few paths they may take. The city has a wealthy heart, but the rivers and boats drifting around the city are full of normal laborers and artists as well. The party might indulge in the party life, do the dirty mercenary work of a Lord, untangle corruption and dangerous plots, or choose to do something entirely different. My worlds tend to be full to the brim with magic and color. I tend to make many characters to interact with, but make visual aids over time for the recurring ones. I prefer the roleplaying side of the game, but especially with a teaching game, there will be a lot of time in combat as well. I lean toward drama with moderate humor, and will not hesitate to add consequences to players who take too lightly the ramifications of their actions.

About me
Howdy! I'm @Brcien or Bricen. I started rpgs by making my own system without knowing about dnd in middle school. I have been playing dnd for about 8 years with time split about even between DMing and playing. My preferred game is rules medium to ground the story but not eat all the time. I'm hype for Daggerheart and interested in Ryuutama. I think smaller games gaining traction is healthy for tabletop gaming since it pressures DnD to up its product quality. My perfect game is an ongoing game with a fantasy world themed after a historical time period with players devoted to the characters and their arcs. I love pulling in back stories and developing complex relationships over time. I like whimsical and happy moments and inner character conflict. I also love faith themes and family dynamics. I love places and think a lot about what makes a tavern special or a city different. I like thinking about the food and drinks and the weird characters that can inhabit the special places.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen in the first session. It is helpful if you have an idea you would already like to pursue you could write some backstory before the game starts. If you already know how to make a character you may. If you don't have an idea for a character, this is the perfect place to learn more about how to make a satisfying character.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Message me to get the link to the discord server. You must be able to voice chat on Discord and must make an account on Roll20 on a laptop or desktop to play. It is easiest if you have access to a Player's Handbook (The 2014 with the Frost Giant on the cover or the 2024 with the Gold Dragon on the cover), but as this is a beginner's game, you don't have to have one. If you choose to play the game over time, you will also need a google drive to look at shopping options, campaign notes, and other resources.
What Bricen brings to the table
I am a very go with the flow DM. I am a very creative person and can help people on that side, but I also have a lot of experience with Dungeons and Dragons 5e and know how to quickly help creative people get the math side down. I am very player friendly and mostly want you to have fun and do what you are interested in. If you really want to do something, we can find a way to make it work. I take your time into consideration and try to find spots to let everyone have a good time and take the spotlight.

How Bricen creates a safe table
When you join, make it clear if there are any no gos. Also please listen to me when I guide away from topics that might ruin the fun of other players. In session, if you are uncomfortable, you are totally free to message you're taking a break and you may message me whatever issue needs to be resolved and how you would solve it if you were the gamemaster. Other players at the table should care about eachother having fun, but in the unlikely case someone does get flustered, let me handle it with them solo instead of everyone hovering over them and potentially escalating any issues.
