About the adventure

***(Statement on player safety and the time period at bottom)*** **This is a learn as we play table, it will be accommodating to new players** --Tales of the Old West-- A cinematic roleplaying game of grit, guns, and hard choices. Tired of dragons and dungeon crawls? No magic. No monsters. Just flawed people, brutal decisions, and the high cost of survival. Set in 1873 on the edge of the American frontier, Tales of the Old West is a grounded RPG about building, breaking, and bleeding in a land that doesn’t care if you live or die. Inspired by the best Westerns, you’ll play lawmen, outlaws, ranchers, or drifters chasing justice, vengeance, or just a place to belong. Story Hook: Sundown Springs ain’t on most maps, but blood’s been spilled there just the same. The sheriff rode out at dawn and never came back. Now the mayor’s drunk, hired guns crowd the saloon, and everyone’s pointing fingers—but nobody’s telling the same story twice. This town’s on a knife edge. What you build, who you trust, and what you’ll fight for... that’s up to you. New to the system? Don’t sweat it. This is a learning table. ***Player Safety Statement*** This story is set in a harsh time—1873, post–Civil War America. But while history includes racism, prejudice, and injustice, this game does not treat those as entertainment. At this table: Bigotry from characters or players will not be tolerated. We focus on grit, justice, and human drama—not trauma. If something crosses a line, say so. We’ll stop. No questions asked. We're here to tell a tough story—but always in a safe, respectful space.

About me

"Grab a hot drink, a seat around the fire, and listen to my cowboy song." "Comfortable? Good! Now, before we get started, I want you all to know that I tell my tales for your enjoyment and pleasure... so please respect each other and don't enter this area if you desire to cause another harm. If someone's pain is your objective or entertains you... You won't make it past the opening credits of our story." [About me: Having been in (often teaching) the Arts for over 25 years, I really enjoy teaching, and I understand how and love to foster creativity in players!] --Experienced GM/DM/ST for roughly 35 years. I have professionally run hundreds of games over multiple systems. In that time, I have learned that it is the players' story and I am just here to facilitate that experience and make it run smoothly and be as entertaining as possible. I see game rules as a way to keep on track and involved...I never let them get in the way of creativity or the group's enjoyment! I came to StartPlaying looking to run some serious and/or seriously fun sessions. My story telling style is light and flows easy. I do not let the mechanics detract from the experience, but use them to enhance the story you want to be told! Teaching new systems to new players is an experience I enjoy. We were all new players, or new to a system at one time...and without kind and proper guidance we probably wouldn't still be involved in this amazing pastime! Roll well and see ya around!

Safety

How DuChampion (JJ) creates a safe table

This will be an open door game, if you need to take a break, for any reason, please do so!! All I ask, is if you can, please mute your mic so I know you are out. -Any use of "out of character" Racism, Sexism, or Discrimination or Personal Attacks of any kind will get you banned. -Players who do these things repeatedly "in character" are discouraged/warned/and subject to being (quickly) kicked or banned. -If you do not follow the “Fade to Black” rule you will be kicked or banned. **Fade to Black Rule** During the game, if there is ever an event, situation, or anything that as a player makes you feel Please say “Fade to Black” (same as N card although sometimes I don't see the chat right away)and that scene will end. I will not ask, I will not judge, I will take control and respect this choice. No story is worth paining someone!
