About the adventure

The Druthmont Academy for Adventurers: where heroes become legends. Druthmont has created some of the finest warriors the continent has known. You…are not them. You’re trainees, and as such, occasionally get sent on minor quests that the “real heroes” cannot be bothered with. In this campaign, you begin as young heroes-in-training at the prestigious Druthmont Academy. The campaign itself will alternate between moments at the academy meeting other trainees, doing training activities and exercises, and going on quests. The quests will, of course, increase in difficulty the more and more you level up. Leveling up, including multiclassing, will be handled as training at the academy so it’s an immersive level up instead of just randomly getting new skills. As this will all be managed through the academy, different members will be chosen for the various quests and you’ll have the opportunity to play with many and multiple different party members throughout the campaign, and of course, Druthmont does happen to be in the heart of a city, so why wouldn’t young students go out and experience the local shops, meet the townsfolk, and have a rowdy time at any of the local taverns. Adventure and more await you at Druthmont Academy! Enroll today!

About me

We find ourselves in a blue-hued room belonging to an awkward, nerdy teenage boy on a day when his life is about to be changed forever. For this happens to be the day his father will give him a very special gift. The gift itself is simply a red, rectangular box: the Dungeons and Dragons First Edition Beginner Box. Yes, this was a world of opportunity in which the boy could escape reality by being a character class like fighter, wizard, or…Elf? Yep, I’ve been a TTRP nerd for many decades now and it all started back when Elf and Dwarf were still considered classes, not races or ancestries and THACO was making me practice math way more enthusiastically than my teachers ever could. As I’ve continued forward in my gaming journey, I’ve enjoyed countless hours on both sides of the GM/DM screen, have become a Venture Agent with Pathfinder Society, and I coordinate the DND/Pathfinder Club at the school where I teach. So, what’s kept me invested in the game all this time? In simple terms, the creative freedom. I love playing creative and unique characters (for example, my gunslinger/witch with multiple personality disorder and the dice would determine which personality dominated each round). And as a GM/DM, I love creating an environment where my players can bring their interestingly unique characters and come up with creative and clever routes to take for problem solving…or problem creating as it sometimes becomes. I love creating a table where players can enjoy the sandbox world a TTRPG creates, helping players learn and expand their understanding of these amazing games, and I absolutely love when my players catch me off guard and the story goes places I’d never even thought it could go. I love creating a gaming world where NPC’s are meaningful figures, the places the characters venture are fleshed out locations a player can truly picture, and the world is something that the heroes find worth saving. A seat at my table will be a place where your ideas will be heard, your unique character and individual views will be respected, and we can all learn and grow together in this amazing game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will begin at level 1 with a 27 point buy and average gold based on the class description. Any and all character creation questions can be posted on the Discord and/or PM'd to the DM.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need daily access to Discord. The expectation is daily checking of the Discord, but no requirement for daily posting if you have nothing you wish to add to the narrative at that moment (for example, if your character is unconscious but stable, there is no need to post, "I continue laying there unconscious.")

What Sean (Suburban Dad Gaming) brings to the table

As a play-by-post, our sessions will go on throughout each week. The game will take place in multiple channels of a Discord. One will be for the academy and others will serve for exploring town or going on adventures. Effectively, it will be a single game in which multiple storylines play out at once. While the Discord will house the text streams for the gaming, I'll also supplement the experience with Google Slides to give visuals for NPCs, maps, items, and other things we will encounter along the way.

Safety

How Sean (Suburban Dad Gaming) creates a safe table

As this will be an ongoing campaign with players coming and going and mixing and matching throughout, the open door policy will be in place to best accommodate the ongoing changes that the makeup of the party will experience.
