About the adventure

This is a module called the Horror Within, created by "The Arcane Library". It is a fun, spooky one shot that includes the madness mechanics. It starts off at Level 8 and I allow 1 rare, uncommon, and common magic item. Besides that, this is your typical run of the mill adventure taken place in a world much like Faerun. You will be in a wet and stone cold town called Grimstone. The game will be played via Roll20. I welcome any one to it as it may seem daunting to use at first, it's not as bad as it seems. Also, making an account is free! Though not necessary, I do offer some home brew rules which will be decided before game play begins. I want everyone to have fun and I'm very relaxed on what we do. I look forward to gaming with you!

About me

Hello Adventurers! I have been running campaigns for over 10 years and I want to share my games with the people. I love creating homebrew games. I am very open with players for homebrew ideas to keep games interesting. Overall Im looking for a good group of players looking for a fun time.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation should be done before playing. Id like to set up your characters ahead of time and make sure everyone has the links to the discord and Roll20 game. Though I would Prefer character creation happen on Roll20, I am not opposed to players using DND beyond or using their real dice. My only request is that you type in what was roll in the Roll20 chat. If you have an image for your character, I would love for you to send them to me so that i can make you a token compatible for Roll20. Again this is a 5e 2014 one shot. You will be starting at level 8. You will be allowed a rare, uncommon, and common magic item. You may use any system for your stats. (point buy, standard array, roll for stats.)

The current party

5e 2014 level 8 characters. Any source on 5e 2014 characters produced by wizards of the coast is acceptable. You are allowed to have 1 rare, 1 uncommon, and 1 common magic item. If you can't think of something, for reference, a potion of healing is common, and a potion of greater healing is uncommon.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTuOa2Ba2_w This Youtube link is for players unfamiliar with Roll20 as it is a quick guide to the basics of the site. I like to use Discord, i have my own channel which you will be invited to. As mentioned before, we will be using Roll20 for this game.

What Jonathan brings to the table

I like sticking to the rules as written for the most part. To be honest, im very relaxed. If there is something cool you want to try and it makes sense, I'm down to see how it goes. With that said, rules are there to help guide what is fair and what is too much and consistency is key for balanced and fair play. I enjoy the roleplay. I have done many plays in my past and working characters is a fun pass time for me. PC to NPC banter is great. I always have music playing, this may be a tick of mine but i can't stand playing in silence. I have simple ambiance music which plays in the background through roll20 which you can use, or set the volume to 0 and play your own music. I'm not offended, the music is more for me than it is for you.

Homebrew rules

My home brew rules are optional, we will discuss them before the game begins to make sure everyone is on board. We will take a majority vote and with a tie, i will decide that the rule will be used. -Potions are bonus action to drink -Though the game is in 2014 rules, I like the 2024 rules for exhaustion. -2 to all d20 rolls and -5ft of movement per level. It just feels easier to remember. -I don't like blank turns with only a death saving throw. I allow talking, moveming 5 ft, and still taking 1 action/bonus action at the cost of a failed death save, then rolling at the end of the turn. -With that rule, any time a player has 0hp and then gains hp, they gain 1 level of exhaustion. If there are any homebrew rules that you like and the group is ok to use, please bring it up before gameplay to see if that is something everyone wants to do.

Safety

How Jonathan creates a safe table

If something comes up that is uncomfortable or someone is saying something that you don't like, message me and we will come up with an appropriate way to continue or stop if need be. This is a game that is meant to be enjoyed. If it is not being enjoyed then why are we here? I always like to ask after every game what everyone thinks. What their favorite parts are, or if there are any concerns.
