About the adventure
Dark forces are rising in Middle-Earth and no one knows why. Will you help the Wise to protect the Free Peoples of Middle-Earth against darkness and despair? Will you play a hardy dwarf, seeking gold, treasure and enemies to slay? Or a wise or curious elf, travelling outside your home forests first time? An adventurous hobbit, following in the footsteps of Bilbo Baggins? Or perhaps a brave Ranger of the North, sworn to protect people defenceless against the oncoming dangers? It is the year 2965 of the Third Age, twenty-some years after one Bilbo Baggins disappeared one Spring morning, only to reappear a year later and interrupt his own estate sale. The extraordinary tale that he told, of travelling with the Wizard Gandalf and Thorin Oakenshield to Wilderland on the other side of the Misty Mountains and somehow defeating a Dragon seemed nothing more than a fairy tale to the other Hobbits. However, no one can deny that there are more folk on the Great Road these days. Most are Dwarves, coming and going both ways, and sometimes even visiting Hobbiton! Rumours from Bree speak of strangers coming into town, telling stories of the rebuilt Dale and the dragon-slayer King Bard and other unusual names. And Elves too are on the move, and rumoured to be in the Wild and even in the Woody End of the Shire! It all sounds rather adventurous, but adventures are dangerous, uncomfortable things. They make you late for dinner and might get you killed! Of course, some valiant individuals are seeking to make their mark on the world, to find the long-lost ruins of past kingdoms, to patrol the borders of their lands and keep them safe, to meet others of similar persuasion and unite to strive against the Shadow that lies over Middle-earth. If successful, folk will call them heroes. But if they disappear while in the wild, they will be lost to history and legend. In The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, you become the adventurers exploring Middle-earth. As the game progresses, you will discover new lands and old secrets, take part in the events of the Third Age, and have your own chance to strive against the Enemy. In this campaign, the players will have many choices of where they would like to explore. Travel to Rivendell and see the elves? Explore the wilds of the troll fells, or the barrow downs seeking treasure? Or perhaps, possibly unwisely, your path will take you to Moria? Many other places of adventure, danger, and heroism await!!

About me
I've been running roleplaying games since 1980. I'm new-ish to hosting games on-line, but what I may lack in technical expertise on the platform I hope to make up for in enthusiasm and making it fun for you! I play "rule of cool" and I look forward to roleplay with you!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
I will provide a link to a D&D Beyond campaign where you can create your Middle Earth character using the character "callings" (classes) in the Lord of the Rings RPG variant of D&D 5e. Only races and callings appropriate to the Middle Earth setting [including all official content from the publisher's (Free League) other official LOTR publications] are allowed. I can do a 1-1 voice session (free) with anyone who wishes help in character creation, or you can message me on discord and we can get your character ready! You can provide your own character art/token, or I can find or make one for you.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will use discord for voice during the game (camera optional). I will provide a link to the Foundry Virtual TableTop we can use for images and battle maps as needed.
What Swords and Sorcery brings to the table
You can expect a fast-paced game with an experienced GM who plays "Rule of Cool" - we do what makes sense and what is most fun! I will provide many options for exciting adventure. There will be an option for an overarching plot line, but also to just play individual unconnected adventures. Where in Middle-Earth do you want to go? We can do that! I have 45 years of GM'ing experience including years of running games in Middle Earth. We will use a Foundry VTT with images of sites and sights, tokens and pictures of monsters and characters, and battle-maps. I do many character/monster voices.

Safety
How Swords and Sorcery creates a safe table
All the content will be appropriate to Tolkien's Middle Earth. Any concerns that players might have (eg, Giant Spiders?) can be raised prior to or during session 0. We will have an "X-card" on the Foundry VTT that a player can throw to identify any concern in-game.
