About the adventure

They say the Midnight Masquerade appears without warning - a circus of golden lights and velvet black and white tents, arriving with the fall of night and gone before the morning sun. Whispers tell of wondrous games, dazzling performances, and prizes beyond imagination. But there are darker rumors, too: visitors who wander too deep and don't return; laughter that turns to screams beyond the canvas walls. Those who dare to enter will find more than games and rides... hidden within the heart of the carnival is a secret far greater than magic and illusion. Will you uncover it before it's too late? The Midnight Masquerade is a short custom campaign that draws elements from the novel The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and portions of 5e module The Wild Beyond the Witchlight carnival chapter. This campaign is intended for any experience level. It will run from level 3-8, and will span approximately 10 sessions (12 max). The game will feature unique skill challenges, unconventional combat encounters, and fun mini-games, all while allowing the players to uncover the secrets that lie within the circus. There are an abundance of magic items in this campaign, both official and homebrew. Expect quick leveling and high rewards!

About me

I love using my creative skills to make unique games! I typically make my own maps and NPC art, and I'm looking forward to expanding my small D&D community.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters should start at level 3 and plan to progress to level 8. Please come to session 0 with a few ideas or work-in-progress character sheets. During Session 0, we will discuss the setting and expectations of the campaign. The remainder of the session will be used for character creation and ensuring that the party is balanced with a wide array of abilities. You may use D&D Beyond, or any other 5e character creation sheet. Keep in mind, Roll20 and D&D Beyond have integration features for ease of use. Any official source material is welcome - homebrew requires pre-approval. Multi-class restrictions can also be negotiated. I'm available for one-on-one help before or after session 0 should you need it.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Microphone required. Roll20 (free) account required. Discord account required. Come to Session 0 with 2-3 character concepts.

What Ellie brings to the table

I believe in GM transparency. I roll openly during games, and do not fudge dice. Character death is a possibility. I use dynamic health bars (actual hitpoints hidden) that allows players to make combat decisions at a glance. My games generally have a balanced ratio of combat and roleplay, but I am willing to adjust that based on party preference. I tend to work within the rules, but can be flexible when it suits the narrative. I typically allow homebrew content with pre-approval/review. In addition, I can provide all of these: -Shared content on D&D Beyond -GM has Roll20 (VVT) Subscription for added map features -Custom Player Character art available upon request -Custom maps (when Official not available) -Custom NPC art (when Official not available)
