About the adventure

Stålseiðr— a world that has already fought back from its own demise once before— has reached a period of modest peace. Six of the seven continents have reached an accord, and operate with one another to promote growth. Their alliant force is known as the Guard, and it has worked tirelessly to ensure each settlement and city has protection from monsters and wayward machina. In some way or another, each of you have come to work with this force from your various settlements or cities. Recently, however, rumors have begun to spread of dissent from within the ranks of the Guard. You've each received a missive from a high-ranking member of the Guard and have been summoned to the capitol city of Frionel, fittingly known as Great City Frionel. Prepare yourself, the airship has arrived! Campaign starts at level 3, homebrew setting, mostly homebrew content. 2014 5e rules (with 2024 content allowed) with quite a few variant rules, and several homebrew mechanics voted on at the start of the game. Free session zero, there will be free text RP in discord threads. Every 10th session for each player is half price! Any experience levels allowed, new players will find tons of patience and help here! Played on Foundry with Discord for voice chat. No account on Foundry required, I can make a log in for each player on my self-hosted server!

About me

I'm Lavan, I'm 32 years old and I love to tell stories! My favorite moments during a game are the ones that are cathartic and thrilling for everyone! I love all things Final Fantasy, Paramore and horror, and have been playing D&D for roughly 4 years! I've been a DM for a little over 2 years now, and have been coordinating three full-length campaigns for about a year and a half (still going)! I'm involved in the furry and LGBTQ+ communities! I'm the author and creator of an ongoing furry visual novel called Wayfinder: A Modern Tale of Furry as well as a short, finished one called After Passion. I have a cat named Grizzly and a rabbit named Smokey!

Character creation

Creating your character

Level 3 character, multiclassing allowed. Point buy. Will be made in the Foundry server for the game. Best if you plan subclasses/multiclasses ahead of time, but not necessary! I will work with you to set your character up, get their backstory sorted and the like! We can coordinate a time to VC or just use messages. The session zero is free and will act as an introduction session for all characters as well as a troubleshooting session, we will also be going through any and all rules. Sources include all official D&D books as well as any Ghostfire Gaming books and Kobold Press's Tome of Heroes and Deep Magic. If you'd like another homebrew subclass or race, let me know and share the source so I can check it out!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Join the Discord server where I host games after you're sent the invite, and wait for me to issue the StartPlaying role. After that, I'll coordinate with you to get you a login for my Foundry server. https://discord.gg/SsxbAaCfkN Use this site with the JSON attached at the pinned comment in the #general server, making sure to activate all options to be able to view any additional subclasses and spells and the like. (Ad Blocker is recommended for this site as it's free and often has them.) https://5e.tools/

What Lavan brings to the table

I have several voices for characters and use descriptive emoting for them. The VTT we are using allows for both ambient sounds and music, with a player-adjustable volume slider for each channel. I offer a number of variant rules which will be described in the "Homebrew Rules" section.

Homebrew rules

We vote on rules in the session zero: 1.) Bonus action potions; action to apply to another player unless you are using a potion injector projector. 2.) Bonus action Lay on Hands. 3.) Versatile actions system: you may forego your action to perform any bonus action instead; you may also forego your movement to perform an additional bonus action. Under certain circumstances, you may also forego your movement to perform an additional action. (This is offered to speed up combat.) 4.) Stacked Inspiration: Each player has a maximum number of inspiration points equal to their proficiency bonus. Players may use their inspiration to grant advantage to themselves or another player. 5.) Risky Inspiration: If Inspiration is used and the second roll is lower, a worse outcome occurs. 6.) Flexible Skill Proficiencies: You may use an alternative ability score for skill proficiencies (ex. Strength for Intimidation, Constitution for Survival, etc.) so long as there is a decent enough reason for it. 7.) Action Surge allows any action, including spells. 8.) Pet/Familiars take turns immediately preceding player's character, mounting and dismounting is half player character's movement speed and done on their turn. 9.) Direct Hit: If the attack roll equals the AC of an enemy, a d20 is rolled. If a 16 or higher is rolled, the attack's damage is rolled again. 10.) Critical Direct Hit: If, as above, the Direct Hit roll lands on a 20, the damage rolled is critical.

Safety

How Lavan creates a safe table

Players may message me their Lines and Veils in advance to compile a list and I will read them aloud during the session zero, as well as make it available to reference to all players (to preserve anonymity). If at any point player wants to upgrade a Veil to a Line, they may message me and I will do so as well. I use a module in Foundry that also features the X card. It can be send anonymously to the DM. If used we will ask if anyone needs a break and strike whatever flagged it from the history of events. There will be a break during play for about 10 minutes roughly halfway through. At the end of the session, we can discuss the session and share Stars and Wishes!
