About the adventure

Players new and old welcome ! You are a Highcursed Knight, through extensive and painful experimentation, you've been given the ability to tap into Magic for the first time. Now, you fight for the capital city of Whitford in a war effort against the dangerous rebel armies of the south. Your own country hates what you are, what they've made you become. They fear you, but now, more than ever, they need you. Heed the call, join the loyalist army ! For this campaign, I suggest creating a character from scratch, made for the story being told in this 5-7 session-long campaign.

About me

Ey, what's up. I've been GMing D&D on an (almost) weekly basis for about 7 years now. I'm a huge fan of narrative driven games with high emotional ties to characters and impactful moments to both the players and the world. I like a table in which we can have equal amounts of lighthearted and serious social interactions, and cool combats. I also love GMing for brand new players to D&D and/or ttrpgs in general. Hit me up if you wanna to join into an ever growing world in which each our stories come into play, or if you want me to run something in an official book!

Character creation

Creating your character

I'd like to have a first meeting in which we discuss the kinds of characters you would like to play, and all together decide what the party is going to look like. Once that is set, we start thinking of backstories, how they connect to eachother, to the world they live in, to the events of the past... Once all that is considered, we move into rolling dice to determine stats. I like to use 4d6 discard lowest, to determine attributes and then the rest of items and gear and so on. That being said, I find it very important to have your characters fit into the world. I only ask that you read a page's worth of the pre-exisisting world lore and to keep that lore in mind when writing the character's backstory. This is simply to not have any dissonance with what is already set into the world. But I also welcome people adding onto the world. Make your own town, your community or thieves guild. If it's not contradictory to what is written, then you can fill in that gap!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Once we have a group set up, I will be inviting all players to a discord server in which we can continue to talk or plan ahead between us, talk with other players from other tables ran in the same setting, but also find a lot of information about world lore. I do ask that players read it to ensure we are all on the same page about the game we will be playing. You will need to make a Forge-VTT account to log into the game instance. And aside from that, all you need is a mic, your character and your lovely presence. Talk soon!

What Jay (Sow.v8) brings to the table

I will be running this game in my own Foundry VTT instance. I find that it is one of the better tools to run a game online. I am willing to discuss other options, but that is my preferred platform. In my games, there is a lot of roleplaying. I try to utilize many types of speaking mannerisms or accents to help differentiate with characters. But to also help players know who they are speaking with, I usually provide art of the character they are speaking to (whenever foreseeable). I am very familiar with the rules of D&D 5e, but even still it's hard for me to keep all of them in mind at all times. I expect players to know their abilities and what they do, but I help as much as I can whenever needed. But in a lot of cases, I like to go with we feel is a "fair" ruling rather than having to spend time looking up specific lines in the Phb. I also think its okay to bend the rules at times, whenever it is in fact Cool. At the end of the day, YOU are paying for these sessions, so it's also important that you tell me what you want out of the game and how you want it to be played. I am here to make sure that, no matter what, we all leave the table having had a good time.

Homebrew rules

Keeping track of Inspiration is sometimes tedious and hard to remember, so I give all players one Inspiration token per session to use whenever. Also, Critical Failures in combat trigger attacks of oportunity for the intended target, or misfires in the case of ranged attacks. Applies to both players and NPCs !

Safety

How Jay (Sow.v8) creates a safe table

Before we go through with a paid session 1, I like to do either a session 0, or simply have a meeting to have you gauge me and the setting, as well as me see how well of a fit we would be to play in the same table. In this same meeting, we can discuss the themes that may be present throughout the campaign, and how we can solve approaching them if necessary. Also, it's very important to say that the campaign is for you ! I want to know what you expect out of your character, out of the experience...
