About the adventure
Welcome to Waterdeep, the Crown of the North, where a wondrous tale of urban adventure is about to unfold; one that entangles your characters in a bitter conflict between two nefarious organizations. Your characters can certainly seek their fortunes, yet a much greater prize lies hidden somewhere in the City of Splendors, waiting to be claimed. Under raging storm clouds, the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as he turns his gaze through the planes toward the city of Waterdeep. Far ahead, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just garnered his attention. Strahd’s face forms the barest hint of a smile as his dark plan unfolds. The master of Castle Ravenloft is watching. Welcome! If the idea of a merge of two fun and action packed campaigns sounds of interest to you, you have come to the right place! "The Folly of Dragons" is my attempt at using Waterdeep: Dragon Heist as an introduction to the infamous Curse of Strahd. W:DH will serve as the basis of your party's formation, establishing ties between you all and cementing a bond that will be later tested in the mists of Barovia. This campaign is expected to go from levels 1-15, a higher level than your typical CoS campaign.

About me
Hiya! I'm Blake and I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since 5e came out in 2014. I have been both a player and a DM since then and I currently DM a few campaigns for my home group and online. I never use AI in any of my games, everything comes directly from my own head. If any of my games intrigue you, if you want your story to be remembered for years to come, and if you have the itch to play and need to scratch it, I welcome you to join me and make memories together!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
We will be using 2024 rules for this campaign, with expanded material allowed. Character creation will occur during Session 0, where we will all come together with concepts that tie your character directly to the game. I use a modified stat array (17, 15, 13, 12, 10, 8) so that everyone feels effective and strong from the start of the campaign. Characters will be made in DNDBeyond.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord account, Roll20 Account, DND Beyond Account, and the Beyond20 Google Chrome extension. Beyond20 allows for integration between DNDBeyond and Roll20. We will use Discord for voice chat. Note: Making accounts on Roll20 and DND Beyond are free.
What Blake brings to the table
I provide a wide range of character voices and personalities to make NPCs come to life. I prioritize roleplay in my games, and put the narrative above all. I also provide custom music playlists for my sessions to add to the atmosphere of play. I try to balance between rules as written and rule of cool, allowing flexibility in the moment should the stakes be high enough.
Homebrew rules
1. Flanking: When in melee range, you get a +2 bonus to attack if your opponent is threatened by a character or a creature friendly to you on the opponent's opposite border or opposite corner. 2. Attacks of Opportunity: You do not provoke attacks of opportunity from an opponent when leaving combat if that opponent has an ally of yours in combat with them. 3. Reactions: You may use your reaction to block an attack of opportunity from an opponent (remember: you only get one reaction per round of combat) 4. Piety: We will be using the Piety System for those who want to worship one of the many gods of Faerun. The Piety System has been introduced in the Mythic Odyssey of Theros sourcebook, and it helps offer bonuses to those who wish for their faith to be rewarded. I will provide details on how piety is earned upon request.

How Blake creates a safe table
I will be using Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist to establish Lines and Veils for the game. The content warnings listed are themes that CAN be present in the game, but are subject to become a line/veil at any time. At the end of the game session, we will debrief for 5-10 minutes on events that happened in the game so we can decompress, highlight the good aspects of the session, and work through any potential bleed outside of the game. This game is 18+ and contains child abuse and neglect, emotional and physical abuse towards vulnerable adults, murder and attempted murder, including that of children, kidnapping, stalking, gaslighting, abuse of power, racism, sexism, cruelty, torture, references to colonialism and genocide, mutilation, mind control, the desecration of the dead and of places of worship, cannibalism, including involuntary cannibalism, mercy killing, situations paralleling sexual assault, parental death, child death, reference to stillbirth/miscarriage, partner death, mental illness and the mistreatment of the mentally ill, possible exploitation of physical disability, maladaptive grieving behaviors, starvation and food horror, cruelty to animals, prolonged and painful deaths, body horror, transformation against ones will, insects and infestation horror, abandonment, including child abandonment, decay, betrayal, including partner and parental betrayal, consumption of alcohol including portrayals of alcoholism, portrayal of hoarding behavior, potential incest, involuntary homicide, graphic depictions of death and violence, implied necrophilia, self harm and suicide, and victim blaming.
