About the adventure
When a group of ordinary high schoolers are drawn together by a mysterious book of myth and legend titled "The Universe of the Cosmic Wheel," they find themselves sucked into the fantasy world of the book. There, they discover they have heroic and magical abilities only to be dreamed of in the real world, each associated with a particular tarot card. With the citizens of the other world calling them legendary warriors fated by ancient prophecy to save the realm from evil, they are tasked with overcoming and collecting the other members of the Major Arcana in order to bring the Cosmic Wheel back into balance. As our heroes explore the world of "The Universe of the Cosmic Wheel" and attempt to fulfill the prophecy, they find that others from the real world are getting drawn into the book, and not all with good intentions. Will our brave adventurers be able to unravel the mystery of this mystical tome, or will its blurring of the lines between reality and fantasy prove to be their undoing? In this campaign, you will get to create an everyday teenage protagonist (using the character creation rules from Kids on Bikes) who is pulled into the world of a mythic fantasy novel where they have heroic and mystical abilities (using a separate Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition character sheet). As the party alternates between adventures within "The Universe of the Cosmic Wheel" and their normal lives going to school and investigating the mysteries of the book in the real world, we will switch between the two rule systems as appropriate. No prior experience with Kids on Bikes or D&D (5e or otherwise) is required and I will be creating custom, streamlined character creation worksheets to guide you through the process, but the complexity of using two game systems at one table may be daunting for new players. Session zero is free and will be used to set expectations and create characters. ✨Imaginative Fantasy, 📖Engrossing Story, 🖤(Light) Teen Angst, 👧🏾All Ages, 🎭Deep Roleplay, ⚔️Thrilling Battles, 🌈Inclusive

About me
Hi there! My name is Samantha, but you can call me Sam. I've been running games online and offline since 2016 (starting with D&D 5e when it was new), so I have a little bit of experience as a GM. In that time, I've also run campaigns and one-shots in a variety of other systems, including Call of Cthulhu, Dungeon World, and Thirsty Sword Lesbians. I like trying new things and being flexible at the table, so whether you're a newcomer or a veteran player, I'm confident I can run a (story-focused) adventure that will suit your needs. My table is always queer-friendly and I strive to be inclusive of players' other identities and safety needs as well.

Creating your character
We will go over character creation together during the (free) session 0. I will guide you through the process of creating your teen character using a streamlined version of the Kids on Bikes rules, then we will discuss what sort of D&D classes or abilities you are interested in for your character's alter ego in the realm of The Legend of the Cosmic Wheel. Once we've determined this information together, I will put together a D&D character sheet for you based on the details we discussed and we can make any final edits if needed. If you can come to session zero with an idea in mind of your character's general concept, archetype, or personality that would be helpful, but it's not necessary at all.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should have a Discord account, a working microphone and pair of headphones, and a quiet place to play and (outside of breaks) focus on the session. We will use Discord for voice chat, dice rolls, and out-of-character / downtime discussions (via text channels and DMs).
What Samantha brings to the table
I strongly tailor my games to focus on providing a strong narrative that weaves in backstory, personality, and other characterization elements from players to build elements of the story collaboratively. From my perspective, the mechanical rules of the game are important but ultimately secondary to whatever I think will make for the most engaging, dramatic, and fun experience for my players. If you want a GM who will use your character's backstory contributions to help build the world, the overarching narrative of the campaign, and maybe even a character arc specifically for your character, you've come to the right place. I also try to streamline the character creation process as much as possible so that it's easy for new players to jump in without needing in-depth technical knowledge of the rules or lengthy time explaining all of those details upfront. For this campaign, I will be creating custom online-fillable character sheets that each of you will be able to edit in real-time on Google Drive using a character sheet template that I've generated.

How Samantha creates a safe table
During session zero, we will be discussing expectations about the campaign (including what players are interested and excited about) and any concerns about content that might come up in the game. I will also be going over my policy regarding breaks, open door policy, and debrief time at the end of each session so that we're all on the same page. If you have other safety tools that you would like to use or anything else I can do to help you feel safe and comfortable, please let me know in-session or via DM and I will do my best to be flexible in accommodating everyone's needs.
