About the adventure
The land of Verahst is chaos incarnate. In a world where magic literally rains down from the sky, the average, humble humanoid can expect the town to be overrun by magical beasts before breakfast, a magic storm to come through and inexplicably turn half the town into mushroom people at tea time, and finally a lich and his dark cult will signal supper time by coming in and trying to harvest their fungal souls. In a world like this, heroes are snuffed out practically before they are even given a chance to do the right thing. Or at least, they were! Then, one man created a sanctuary by going to the tallest mountain in the land, and blowing the top half of it off to make space for something even grander than nature: Summit'Ish University. A place for people to train, to learn how to fight and thrive in the madhouse they were born into, and hopefully, to have a lot of fun along the way. Experience the thrills of a magically-enhanced college life, where beer pong has way higher stakes because the table's a mimic. Make friends and beat rivals! Social life is important, and knowing the right people can change your world. Sometimes literally! Enjoy an expanded downtime system that lets you get all the satisfaction of being either the king of parties, or valedictorian (or both!) To keep your grades up, go on quests across the intensely magical landscapes of Verahst, witnessing fantastical sights and fighting fearsome foes!

About me
I've been a GM for over 8 years, and have been blessed enough to run over 200 sessions in that time. I'm someone that places a lot of value in having a good time, and I want everyone to do so! I hope you like the profile pic, because I am a big believer in (at least me) having a webcam up during games. It allows my players to see the eccentric body language and expressions of NPCs and allows them the satisfaction of seeing my face fall as they utterly whomp me. I'm a game designer/writer by trade, and a storyteller by choice! I love it when the good guys win, when love, joy, and hope triumph, and -above all else- making stupid puns, and TTRPGs have always been the outlet of choice for all of those things happening AND letting things blow up along the way.

Creating your character
Characters will start at Level 2. We will spend some of Session 0 fleshing out the mechanics of your characters, but if you want to bounce general ideas off of me beforehand, absolutely feel free! You may use any official source from before 2024, and I will offer sources before/at Session 0 if needed.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using a combination of Roll20 and Discord for this campaign. Both are free and I will gladly assist if help is needed in getting familiar with either app. All players will need to have a microphone to speak in voice chat, and I personally will have a webcam up, but that is not a requirement for any other player. I know the rules very well, so players shouldn't feel the need to pour through them ahead of time, as I will gladly offer support and guidance where needed.
What Joe CS brings to the table
I love giving it my all to make sure all my players have fun. I give each NPC distinctive mannerisms, inflections, and personalities to try to keep things memorable and interesting. Fights can be expected to be spectacles or dynamic or hopefully both, each one accompanied by a thematically and vibe appropriate custom soundtrack, as well as a custom map.
Homebrew rules
When players roll for health on leveling up, if they don't like the roll, they may ask me to reroll it for them, but they have to take whatever I rolled. If a character is using Strength to deal damage with a two-handed weapon, they will add 1.5x their Strength mod to the damage instead of just Strength.

How Joe CS creates a safe table
In Session 0, I will share a Lines and Veils doc with my players so that we can go over it, and they can edit it whenever they see fit too. I will make clear what my expectations for the campaign are, and make sure I understand what reservations my players have. I encourage all my players to, if they feel uncomfortable, take a personal break during session, and I will make sure to leave time at the end of session to ask each player how they felt, if there was anything that made them uncomfortable, and if there was anything they liked, so that I can get a sense on where to go to deliver the most pleasant experience possible.
