About the adventure

Trapped by dark mists in an unfriendly town, the keen eyes of a vicious Vampire stalks your team. Can you outsmart the devious Strahd? In Curse of Strahd, players will start out as level 1's, fighting for survival in the gloomy village around the castle while climbing levels toward their ultimate goal - confronting the devious Strahd. From the book itself: "Unravel the mysteries of Ravenloft in this dread adventure for the world’s greatest roleplaying game. Under raging storm clouds, the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as he turns his gaze down toward the village of Barovia. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms the barest hint of a smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came—all according to his plan. A lightning flash rips through the darkness, but Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind fills the midnight air. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited."

About me

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved making stories and sharing them with other people. Growing up in a small town, sharing ghost stories and tall tales made up much of my childhood. Dungeons & Dragons offers the unique chance to take this sharing a step further and create a cooperative story. It only took me a few games to really get hooked on the experience. I'm in my 30's and I have been actively playing for a little over 20 years, switching solely to a DM since 2001 when Third Edition came out. I have had a few years to develop my ability to create unique characters with distinct personalities, and I enjoy using custom voices as well to give each a truly unique feel. I enjoy running campaigns that allow freedom for players while providing a clear and coherent plot. I usually stick with written material and adventures, and adapt them as necessary in order to allow more freedom and agency for players.

Character creation

Creating your character

Any published official D&D material can be used. Characters start at level 1 and can use Point buy (27 points) or default to the standard array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8. Session 0 will focus on character creation, but please feel free to bring your character already made if you feel so inclined! We will be using D&D Beyond for character creation.

Safety

How Allan creates a safe table

Parts of this adventure play out like scenes in a horror movie. Although the events of the adventure should make characters feel stressed and anxious, players should be relaxed and having fun. We will be having a break near the middle of each session, for approx. 10 min. Session 0 will allow a discussion on the kind of story and play that will be involved, and provides players with a chance to review any limits on what topics can be broached in-game.
