About the adventure
The Whispered One The Arch-Lich. The Undying King. The Maimed Lord. Vecna is the scourge of worlds, and a threat to the very fabric of reality. His name is synonymous with evil secrets, death, and the lust for power. Every world has a fable about Vecna, a story they tell children to keep them out of graveyards, and inside at night. And all those stories are rooted in the fundamental truth - Vecna is an ever-present danger to everyone, everywhere, all the time. You, as an investigator in Neverwinter, have some idea of the danger Vecna presents. You've been rooting out his cultist devotees from the shadows of the city. Now, Lord Neverember's emissaries have called you and others to his villa, and you have an inkling of what task lays before you. If the rumors are true, prominent citizens have been disappearing, and if you are being summoned, then a cult of Vecna is most likely to blame... Welcome to Vecna: Eve of Ruin, a multiversal levels 10 thru 20 adventure for 4 to 6 players Do you and your party have what it takes to scour the multiverse to stop Vecna from remaking the whole of reality in his own image? Can you collect the artifacts needed to stop the Lich from completing his ritual? Work with some of the most renown mages in all the worlds, visit exotic locations across several planes of existence, and find a way to save everyone. Become the hero the Multiverse needs you to be.

About me
Hello my friends! I am Uncle Casey, the storyteller for what I hope is your next adventure. I do my best to run a welcoming, safe, and accessible table; I believe creating felt safety encourages deeper, more enjoyable game experiences. To that end, I require my players to be open and affirming of everyone’s right to exist and be who they are without judgement. For characters I don’t limit species, and players are free to make their characters as self-representative (or not) as they choose. I have resources available (Unlimited Heroics, Combat Wheelchair, etc.) that can serve as a guide for any non-core mechanics you’d like to integrate. I want you to feel free to be you. Or be someone completely different. It’s your game. Me, a Brief History: (Reading optional) I started playing TTRPG's during junior high and high school, back in the 80's and early 90's. I joined a friend's D&D game, then started DMing for my friends. We tried out Talislanta, Rifts, Cyberpunk, Vampire, Aliens, Robotech and a few I've probably forgotten. Then life happened. I eventually earned a degree in theatre and a certification in stage combat choreography, I caught an arrow to my knee (got married), did community, amateur and professional theatre, adopted our children, left theatre to work with foster and adoptive families, that turned I into educating families about trauma and it's effects on our brains and bodies. I started playing D&D again in 2015 with 5e - my dice were literally older than the other players at the table. (side-note: I am a notorious dice goblin). It wasn't long until I started DMing again, both in-person and online. I've met some amazing people from around the world playing D&D online, as well as my fair share of cautionary tales. My strengths as a DM - I'm open and caring and belive in self-agency for players and characters. I'm big into backstories and love integrating them into campaigns. I'm always down to work with players, embellishing and expanding their character histories. Do you want a convoluted, world-shaking secret from your past threaten to rip apart the very fabric of reality? I'm in. Of course less dramatic backstories are welcome as well - some players like to focus on what's ahead of them, rather than what's in the past. I am flexible. I create as much of an open-world environment as possible, encouraging player agency and choice. I'm good at rolling with a sudden shift in party objectives. I encourage players, especially experienced players, to immerse themselves in their characters' moment, know what they know, and experience the game with fresh eyes. Yes, you probably are steeped in game lore and monster stats, and how refreshing would it be to just lose yourself in the moment and forget the meta-knowledge in the moment?

Creating your character
Once you've joined the game, I will send a link to the Dndbeyond campaign, where you will be able to build a new character. You will have access to all the available species, classes (including artificer, bloodhunter, an illrigger) and subclasses. I don't limit species in my games - I just make the base-settings more diverse. I would like everyone to use the most updated options when building their characters - the 2024 options if they are available for your choices (so an Aasimar Cleric would be all 2024) noting that some options for species and subclasses are not updated therefore the 2014 /partner content is available. Guns - Due to my personal preferences, Guns in my world are non-bullet, non-black-powder, arcane or eldritch weapons that deal force damage. This is a non-negotiable. Because there are over 130 species, subspecies, and variants, I prefer not to use home-brewed species in this adventure. I may allow a current Unearthed Arcana homebrew to be used for species or class/ subclass should one be out, and unpublished at the time of the game (case in point - the Cartographer Artificer UA). But I will not be allowing purely homebrewed species or subclasses.
We did a pre-curser campaign with two players who each ran two characters, depending on the number of additional players who join, players may be able to play two characters at once.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need Discord, Roll20, and Dndbeyond accounts. The free accounts are perfectly fine. They will also need the Beyond20 browser extension installed to allow rolls to be shared between their Dndbeyond character sheet, the game log, and Roll20
What Storytime with Uncle Casey brings to the table
Discord with be used for our main form of communication, both ingame and out of game. I will be hosting on my own server. Characters will be built in the Dndbeyond campaign - this will allow players to build their characters with all the currently available character options (published and partnered content). I generally use Roll20 for maps, but may use some of the Dndbeyond Maps for this adventure. I do not plan on using Sigil. I'm not sure anyone is... As a DM I endeavor to provide an adventure that is as open-world as possible, even within the parameters of a published module. Player agency, choice and voice is very important to me. I want this to be a collaborative story that we all build together. I feel it is my duty to encourage everyone to have an even stake and share in the creation of the story as it moves forward.
Homebrew rules
Since 2024 says feeding an unconscious ally a healing potion is a bonus action, bonus potions all around! No taking 1 level of Rogue just to get sneak attack. Due to person history, I don't allow bullets or black-powder fueled guns. Weapons of that type will be considered arcane /eldritch, and deal force damage.

How Storytime with Uncle Casey creates a safe table
To ensure everyone has a good experience and feels comfortable when we play, I employ several safety tools. There will be a pre-game survey that will discuss player lines and veils, as well as preferences. I'll use these to guide my decisions in what materials are include and excluded from the game. There are in-game anonymous safety cards that can be used if something happens in game that needs to be avoided, or worked through in a more mindful manner. We will discuss these safety tools during our Session 0, and will get a better understanding of topics we will, and will not, be exploring during the campaign. A note about the content warnings: Mutilation, Self Harm, Scars, Body Horror: Vecna is missing a hand and eye. It is a symbol of his cult, and many of his followers follow in his footsteps with similar self-inflicted injuries. I will not depict the enacting of this in-game.
