About the adventure

"War.... war never changes. Except it does, people just die and eventually forget what happened!" In this campaign you will experience the following: šŸ”„ - Defend your home and the twilight lands against invading forces from the lands of light and fire! ⚔ - Survive in a harsh, cold world. Storms rage across the land! šŸŒž - Venture within the Light Side, explore deserts and mountains full of fire and brimstone! Watch a quick highlight compilation of my games: https://youtu.be/JGthJQk8gVo Every generation has a burden. A problem unique to their time which threatens life as they know it. Now it is your turn to step up and face yours. To defend your home against those who would take it from you and those you love! In this homebrew world there is no night or day cycle. The sun permanently shines on a single side, making it a nightmarish hellscape. Consequently, the opposite side of the planet is cold and uncaring. The land in-between is called the Twilight Lands, where most people live. Violent air currents and storms move the hot air from one side to the other. Constant conflict keeps those valuable lands contested. I will strive to establish your character's involvement with the elements of the adventure and work with you what part of your background can be integrated in the plot (if any).

About me

Take a sneak peek at my games with this highlight compilation: https://youtu.be/JGthJQk8gVo I have been GMing since I was 14 years old. Me and my friends pooled some money to buy the Player's Handbook for D&D 3.0. Someone had to GM, I seemed to be the most excited about the game so I volunteered. The rest is history. Over the course of this twenty-something-year journey, I have played not only D&D, but other game systems like World of Darkness (Vampire), DCC, Pathfinder and, more recently, Five Torches Deep and Cypher System. Throughout the years, I have gained extensive experience conducting games both face-to-face and online, learning to adapt on the fly to the players’ ideas. I have learned to use a variety of techniques to create a sense of full immersion through storytelling. I have mastered the art of creating challenging tactical combat that will make you sweat. Overall, I believe in delivering all aspects of the game with balance and excellence. My preference lies within dark fantasy genre and roleplay-heavy games, often with faction-based conflicts and mystery plots, as well as Old-School style games. Official modules, third party campaigns or custom games — I can do it all. If you are interested in a game that I don’t currently have listed, please feel free to reach out to me and let me know what you would like to play. I always look forward to meeting new players and creating amazing, epic moments and stories we will never forget. At the end of the day, that’s what Tabletop RPGs are all about!

Character creation

Creating your character

You can create your character in two ways. 1 - Make the character with me manually inside Foundry (about 10 minutes if you know what you want). 2 - Make your own character on DnD beyond website if you own the books and resources needed. Send me the link and I'll put it in Foundry for you. ✨Campaign starting Level: 4 šŸ”’Content allowed: Race, background and class preferably from the Player's Handbook 2024. We can use legacy existing subclasses from all existing books and settings, except for Twilight and Peace clerics. Please use common sense and talk to me about it if making something too exotic. šŸ”’Multiclassing is discouraged, but you can do it. Just talk to me about your ideas as you level up. šŸ“œAbility scores: Determined by Point Buy (27 points) šŸ’ŖFeats are allowed šŸ’–Hit Points: Take Average šŸŽ’Initial Equipment: All of your Class and Background starting set, one Potion of Greater Healing, 500 gold to buy mundane equipment.

The current party

We are close to the end of the adventure and would welcome you into the group as they explore The Tunnels and The Deep in search of ancient lore! They have secured a path to the city of Darkhearth and are now adventuring in its outskirts. The group consists of: - A High Elf Paladin of Vengeance who seeks revenge against a reptilian fiend. - A Gnome Cleric of Trickery who is part of a healing order and a Lorekeeper specialized in survival. - A Tiefling Rogue Assassin from the Firelands who seeks redemption. - A Goliath Artificer Armorer with a fancy magical armor who seeks to explore the underground minerals and resources to improve upon his masterwork.

What Carlos brings to the table

Foundry VTT license, hosted on a cloud (you open it on your internet browser), running very light and smooth while configured with an expansive set of modules, including spell animations, robust automation for combat and many other functionalities. Beautiul maps, set up with walls and dynamic lighting. Proper soundtracks to set the mood and beautiful art as handouts to inspire your imagination!

Homebrew rules

Overall guidelines: I try to keep house-rules minimum, or they are redundant, and we forget them. Usually I have a maximum of 3. After that, if I feel like introducing a new one, I have to remove an existing one. I usually don't introduce house-rules without talking to the group about it. 1 - Lingering Death Save failures All failed Death Saving throws carry over until a Long rest is completed. In addition, whenever a PC gets up from 0HP, they gain a failed Death Saving throw. If a character has 3 Death Saving throw failures and goes down to zero hit points, they are dead. Additionally, during a short rest, a PC can choose to spend 1 Hit Dice or more to remove a failed Death Save. 2 - Heroic short rest: The first Short Rest of the day only takes 10 minutes instead of 1 hour. Short rests are Limited to two per day. 3 - Legendary Resistance Punishment: Whenever a creature uses their Legendary resistance, the effort spent causes them to take 5 damage per spell level. If it's an ability or class feature, they take 15-20 damage (GM decides). This bypasses all resistances and immunities. The GM will describe how this happens narratively.

Safety

How Carlos creates a safe table

As expected for a war-themed adventure in a fantasy or dark-fantasy setting, Tides of War contains combat encounters which depict sequences of violence. Additionally, the adventure includes certain events which portray body horror, death, abuse of power, supernatural horror, murder, kidnapping, immolation, ghostly possession, torture. I do my best to ensure that none of these topics are overly gratuitous in their presentation or needlessly gruesome in detail. The purpose of tabletop roleplaying games is to have fun experiencing a unique adventure and story together as a collaborative storytelling experience. We will be doing a session zero before beginning the adventure, and I can easily modify descriptions or scenarios as appropriate to avoid content that the party might be uncomfortable with. I use the Tabletop RPG safety tool X-card by John Stavropoulos integrated on my Foundry setup. Anyone can press the X button, or say "Let's talk for a moment", "I need a break" and we will stop, talk about it and continue later.
