About the adventure

Waterdeep is a setting that can fit into many genres, including intrigue, whether local or political, high fantasy, dungeon-delving adventures, and many more. There are many factions to pull lore from: the Emerald Enclave and its connection to all forces that would defend nature, the Gray Hands, who are sworn defenders of the city under its archmage, the Blackstaff, or the criminal syndicates that work within Waterdeep's walls. In this module, a simple quest to find a missing person unravels into a mystery centered on a conflict between two major factions hidden within the city's walls. What you do with the information you collect could set you up for life or turn the City of Wonders on its head. However, as this is a one-shot, this will initially be a short adventure. The purpose of this is to test out my conversions from D&D5e to PF2e from the original module. If all goes well, I will post a campaign version of this game. That being said, this one-shot will only cover chapter 1 of Waterdeep: Dragonheist, so I aim to complete this with a quick session 0, followed immediately by a 1-2 session playthrough.

About me

Hello, wannabe adventurers! I'm Elazar :) I am a new father and a university student studying mathematics and statistics. I've had a passion for tabletop RPGs since my earliest years of high school, and, as I'm sure is the case for many of you, have had a persistent role-playing itch ever since. I pride myself on being adaptable. Not only do I learn on the fly, but I make it a point of learning from my mistakes. I believe it's the primary reason I've become as good of a GM as I am. Additionally, I'm trying my hand at sci-fi settings (Eberron and a homebrew setting) and Pathfinder 2e after having D&D 5e as my main fix for the longest time. I love the game, but I'm excited to see what it has to offer.

Elazar was my GM for two campaigns, one of them being my first ever and he was fantastic! He is the ideal GM for first time players, very patient and works with you through every step of the game, including character creation! His stories are also very entertaining and multi-layered, perfectly balancing the arcs of the PC’s with the campaign plot. I could not possibly recommend Elazar more as both a GM and just a great person to talk you!

This DM I’ve been playing with since his very first game. I’ve seen his growth from a super green DM, so green that (as a new player myself) we had to sit down with the rulebooks to decipher combat, all the way to a DM that can masterfully craft an amazing experience for groups of any size and makeup. He’s super inventive with his use of music, and crafts fights meticulously tailored to a group’s strengths and weaknesses. He’s a solid mix of a traditional rules/combat heavy DM and a more role playing rule of cool DM, and I highly recommend him to any prospective or seasoned DND player

i play in an irl 5e game with elazar. he consistently goes out of his way to accommodate players both in and out of game, respecting the partys involvement with our characters and keeping the world responsive to whatever insane crap we pull in the heat of the moment while also keeping open channels of communication regarding scheduling and interpersonal issues. this is a solid gm and good people

Elazar is a super cool story teller, he gets really into voices and characters, and it makes npc interactions so fun! He's also knowledgeable in most spells and effects and is prepared for almost anything. Anyways, he's an awesome DM all around!

I started playing D&D with Elazar as my DM. He was always incredibly helpful and patient with new players and their journey through learning the game. The lengths he went to set the mood and make sure you felt in his stories were incredible. Overall a phenomenal DM especially if you're looking for a non-judgemental, friendly table with terrific worldbuilding and storytelling.

Character creation
Creating your character

There is a document I'll share with everyone as they join the game that details important information about the Waterdeep setting. Otherwise, keeping character ideas within the bounds of the Forgotten Realms setting would be the most appropriate. I like using Pathbuilder for character creation, but as long as I have an accessible method for viewing your character sheet, all is well. We'll be using Forge VTT for combat, so you will also be able to construct your character sheet on there!

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Having Google Meet or Discord accessible, a pathbuilder account, and Foundry VTT would make everything easy. However, the only necessary one is Discord, as I'm the only one who needs to pay for Foundry VTT.

What Elazar brings to the table

I like to do voices, but sometimes I can forget the accent from an NPC a few sessions prior lol. I will definitely be using music and do my best to have meaningful and intense combat, but I won't be too much of a stickler for the rules. I will try to remember what I can, but improvising is the name of the game, right?

Homebrew rules

Since I'm new to Pathfinder, I will only be using gridless combat as a homebrew rule.

Safety
How Elazar creates a safe table

I tend to ask questions about how everyone is feeling as we progress through the game, but I have a consent checklist I take out during the beginning of session 0 after ice breakers. It also comes with distinct content warnings directly related to the module. The checklist just covers anything that might need to be improvised.
