About me

Hi everyone, my name is Ryan and I hope to be your next GM! I have always had an affinity for doing goofy voices and telling stories, so when I discovered Dungeons & Dragons, I instantly fell in love. I became a GM for the first time during the pandemic and have never looked back! I'm a United States Coast Guard Veteran, a soon to be author and have professionally Voice Acted, so you can expect ALL the voices and accents I can muster to be in our games. My hope is that I can bring as much joy in our games to you as I can and I can't wait to hear from you! Also I want to shout out my friend Amy Vorpahl! I'm one of the mods in her Discord and she has been a huge help to my journey. You should check her out! She has a DM school where she teaches how to DM and I highly recommend attending!

Y'all should check this guy out. Ryan’s DMing style ranges from roleplaying forums, to combat madness, to crazy shenanigans and he seems to flow through each effortlessly. He recognizes the importance of challenge in both social and combat encounters but has always made having fun the #1 goal in his games. From one shots, to long form campaigns, his storytelling, NPC personalities, voice acting chops and his inclusiveness makes every session fun and rewarding. Highly recommend Ryan for newbies and vets alike 💃🏻🕺🪩

Ryan is great DM. He's skilled at weaving character stories into the main plot in a way that is deeply rewarding. He's a patient teacher of the rules, a fun presence at the table and a terrific storyteller and world builder in general. Playing with him has made me a much better player. Don't miss a chance to play in his worlds!

Ryan is a fantastic story teller, and a wonderful DM! He has always emphasized that the story he helps lead is not only his creation, but everyone at the table's creation - he prioritizes making sure that everyone has a voice so that we all can be a part of the creative process together. He is wonderful at improvisation, he knows how to crack a good joke, and makes the session time very enjoyable. You are missing out by not having him host a campaign for you!

I played my first one-shot with Ryan and had a blast. Our group was mostly new to DnD with a couple experienced players, Ryan was very helpful getting everyone on the same page while letting everyone's personalty (character) shine through. Highly recommend for new and experienced players alike. Added bonus of Ryan's ability for voices and accents created a variety of unique and interesting NPCs that we came across on our quest.

Really funny and creative DM! Tailored our game to the players and our preferences so we all had a good time. Definitely rolled with whatever silly stuff our group wanted to get in to.

Ryan is a fantastic DM for new and experienced players alike. He immerses players into stories with his descriptiveness and unique npcs that are brought to life with his voice acting abilities. Great at setting up expectations and making sure everyone is comfortable and happy with game play. He encourages creativeness and works to make the style of the game (role play oriented, combat oriented, mix etc) to fit the style his players are looking for. He has played as both a DM and as a player and so he understands both sides of the game. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a DM!

Character creation
Creating your character

Characters will be created before the first session. I will run a Session 0 where we come up with your characters and their backstories together. I am happy to generate characters for those who are overwhelmed. This session 0 is where will go over all the themes, the general type of game and other things necessary. I will also be building the world around you and your characters, so feel free to go wild with your imagination. I am more than happy to assist however I can!

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You will need a D&D Beyond account, Zoom account, and a Roll 20 Account. A decent mic, camera and computer are much appreciated. Other than those things, all I ask is that you bring a positive attitude and your sense of wonder and fun! Obviously it will help the game move along if you learn as much as you can about your character and their abilities before we play. I am more than happy to teach too, so no fear if you're brand new to this wonderful game!

What Ryan Wiley brings to the table

I bring to the table a large collection on D&D Beyond (working on getting them all) which gives the players in my campaigns access to all of that content I own. Roll 20 is a fun and easy to learn system and I am more than happy to go through it ahead of time with my players.

How Ryan Wiley creates a safe table

A typical session will be everyone logging into D&D Beyond, then joining the Zoom and then joining Roll 20. After everyone is situated and ready to go then we will jump right into the game. Exploring and role-playing and combat will hopefully be done in equal measures! I like to play my games with a healthy mix of role-playing and combat. There is also a good amount of serious and silly content, though I won't lie, I tend to be on the silly side. You can expect the game to be fully fleshed out, because it's a lot of fun creating the entire world. I pride myself on my voice acting skills and will do my best to breathe life into every NPC. Character death is a serious possibility, especially at early levels. This is because the monsters you're facing are taller than most buildings but also because I follow the dice. I also try and tell an amazing story while playing with you all and that means failure is a serious possibility. This lends itself to a much more realistic world and consequences. I am very laid back DM, however all I try to do is be realistic. I will let people try almost anything, however every world has limits. Having said that though, rule of cool reigns supreme. I want to fulfill the fantasy of being an adventurer and hero for my players, so we will try to make it happen. Also, failure is one of the most fun parts of D&D. It always leads to the best stories and ones you tell your friends about later. I am a very flexible DM and look to provide you and your party with the most fun possible. I can tell the story in a variety of different ways, curtailed to your groups particular play style. If you would prefer I narrate most of the story and you react to it, great! If you want the story to be much more dynamic where I ask you to tell your characters part in it, even better! Whatever your group will find more fun, that's what we will do! And if you don't know, that's fine too! We will experiment! I ask everyone to be on time and ready for the session and expect them to stay for the entirety unless an emergency arises. Real life happens, I get it, but I want to make sure you get the most out of your money. I would love if people stayed in character as much as possible. If this is new to you, that's okay also! Try your best and let loose. Once you get over your own mental blocks, the game will open up and you'll have even more fun. I run a mature game, mainly because I am a US military veteran and swear like a sailor. There is a sheet I will ask you to fill out before the game talking about things you don't want in the game that will help everyone feel comfortable at the table. You can expect to have a 5-10 minute break around mid-session for grabbing snacks, drinks, and restroom breaks. Again, I'm not a monster, so if you need to step away for a minute I understand. I just want everyone to get the most bang for their buck!
