About the adventure

The Compass Resort is finally opening its doors and all of you are invited to attend! Sure, it had a troubled construction period with numerous dead construction workers and protests that seemed to fizzle out after "mysterious disappearances." And, sure, the air seems heavy with dread and regret as you arrive but it was not just all inclusive, but free! Nothing could possibly go wrong in a place like this. Using the horrifying and haunting Call of Cthulhu 7e, you will play influencers across industries invited to stay at The Compass Resort on this opening week with the promise you promote it after your stay. Whether you are social media experts, surgeons or a street car operator, you will be able to find a reason to come and every reason to leave. As you stumble deeper and deeper into the oddities and absurdities that make up this little island resort, you will need to do everything in your power to survive. What rests behind every corner may be dangerous, but no more dangerous than that which roosts in your relaxing mind. This anniversary of the islands discovery by Spanish settlers will be unlike any before. This mini-campaign will be structured starting with smaller self contained adventures that stack brick by brick into a nightmare you can't escape. Before we begin though, I would like to provide an important piece of advice: The worst monsters do not hide in the darkness but walk comfortably in the sun.

About me

Hello adventurers! My name's Jacob and I've been running TTRPGs for over a decade with three years of experience full time GM-ing. With a long background in theatre as well as a former designer of escape rooms, I bring a wealth of experience to every game I run. My focus is on making a fun and satisfying story regardless of player history with the game. No matter whether your characters are trekking through a mountain pass, exploring the furthest reaches of space or even attending a spooky summer camp, you should be experiencing a well crafted adventure you will never forget! I also bring an attentive eye to representation within the game space. As a former organizer and field director for numerous political campaigns, I have fought for this first hand and will not let it go unnoticed in my games. There is a wide spectrum of games I have played and run varying from DND (5e and 3.5), Pathfinder (1e and 2e), Doctor Who, Kids on Bikes, Honey Heist, Mutants and Masterminds, Call of Cthulhu, Wet Hot American Summer, Everything Is Dolphins, Fallout RPG and much, much more. I look forward to crafting unique gaming experiences in these wildly different worlds exclusively for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen as part of Session Zero. I would recommend coming with one to two concepts but I do not expect a fully created character at the start of the session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The game will be done through Discord so you will need a working computer, internet connection, microphone and a headset. You may use your own dice or the digital dice bot in the Discord.

What Jacob Cordas brings to the table

I will bring a thorough and highly responsive campaign that will explore the elements of horror you most want to see. I will provide access to books as well as a fully built Discord unique to this adventure.

Safety

How Jacob Cordas creates a safe table

This game is horror game that will lean into horrible, horrible things that earn the adjective eldritch. For that to be fun, safety is of the utmost concern. The list of content warnings serves as potentials for things that may appear in the game. We will use as part of the Session Zero, the Monte Cook RPG Consent Check List to clearly establish the boundaries of each and every player. While we play, we will use a variant of the X, N, And O Cards called Yellow/Red Cards as well as an Open Door Policy and regular Breaks. In special cases, we will use After Care periods to make sure every player is comfortable and safe while being spooked.
