Jeff is a wonderful GM! His voice acting experience allows him to make the game world feel richer. His home brew campaign is so compelling and well thought out. I always look forward to our next game session. He also has a set of safety tools that he reviews with players in session 0.
Had a great time playing a Cypher System / Ptolus campaign with Jeffrey. He was a skilled GM, meeting the player's energy, accurate on the rules and creating dramatic and fun situations within the game. Every session was a great time, shenanigans occurred, and he kept us on target. Highly recommended.
Jeff ran a short chapter of Ptolus that covered 4 sessions in Cypher system. It was great to play Cypher with this group and with a fantastic GM! Jeff was very good at explaining the system and the setting, and was very good at responding to our random riffing and it was clear that he was devoted to giving us a positive experience that matched what we wanted to do. We were given a lot of latitude to do what we wanted with our characters both in creation and in game play, and at the same time he didn't let us get away with cheesing the game. I highly recommend Jeff for players whether beginning or experienced, and especially if you want to play Cypher system (since it's a lesser known/played system).
I first met Jeff at GenCon where he ran a session of Cypher System for me and others in the Monte Cook Games room! Hems a fantastic story teller, and great GM! Not only is he great at running cypher system, but he is a game designer and writer. He ran his game The Crypt Has Opened for me and a few friends, and it was fantastic! Highly recommend!
Jeff is a very animated DM with a range of voices he puts on for each character. He's not afraid of making things challenging which allows us to take many different approaches to complete our objective. Many times our party came up with a weird scheme or winged it and Jeff was more than willing to go along with our plan and see it through to its fruition or failure and even our failures were made fun. Great combat, great story, great characters and I really enjoyed the world of Ptolus, even if everyone did hate my character!
Character creation
Creating your character
You are open to use Demiplane for character creation or pen and paper. You may also use the Demiplane phone app if you wish. Rolls may be done through the app or with physical dice, whichever you prefer. We will start at level 1. Prior to Session 0 I will send out a Dropbox link to our Player Packet. In it contains all the information about Ptolus you'll need to know if you'd like to read ahead. I'm also available on Discord to answer questions. There will be pre-generated characters for anyone who wants to jump in right away.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To get a taste of my style and Ptolus I suggest watching a bit of this Actual Play. It'll give you a great starting point into the setting. https://youtu.be/wT-IZAXqxzU?si=uZqtjWkEtCLDU-0Z Please join the Discord prior to Session 0 and pick the channel that matches your play day and game. We will use Discord for voice and video (optional).
What Jeffrey (When Suddenly Games) brings to the table
🛝HOW WE PLAY I use Foundry VTT for handling dice rolls, in game handouts and images, and combat maps. I will provide you with the link to the server and your username and password. You will also need to join the Discord server for voice and video (optional). 📚WHAT I BRING I have a background in voice acting and threatre, so I always attempt to bring a unique life and sound to the NPCs that you meet in the world. This enforces the roleplay side of the game that I believe makes Ptolus flourish and come alive. I have run Ptolus in a variety of systems, with a long running campaign following the Banewarrens campaign book. I have access to several Ptolus modules that could theoretically take a group from levels 1 to 10 with ease. ♟️WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT? I am your cheerleader. We want to make for some awesome memories and if that means you one-shot the BBEG then I think that'll be an amazing story to tell! To see how I run a game, check out the four part series of the official re-release of the Ptolus book by Monte Cook Games https://youtu.be/wT-IZAXqxzU?si=uZqtjWkEtCLDU-0Z 💼WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING? I encourage the players to find fun images for their characters so we can make tokens for them. We will use these tokens in Foundry for keeping up with general character placements during action sequences. If you have any further questions please reach out!
Homebrew rules
As Daggerheart is new, at this time I do not have any homebrew rules. We'll be playing RAW.

How Jeffrey (When Suddenly Games) creates a safe table
Ptolus is a High Fantasy setting with sprinkles of horror (ghosts, body modification & body mutilation), fantasy sci-fi, and fantasy drug use. I promote an open dialogue at the table and if at anytime you feel uncomfortable with a scene please let me know and we will resolve it in a manor that is narratively appropriate but meets your needs. The gameplay is mostly driven by you, the players. While I do seed plot hooks, it is up to you as players to seize them and take action. There is an entire city of people to talk to you and learn from, chances are if you don't know the answer someone in the city certainly does.
