About the adventure

A quiet, backwater town (Phandalin) sits amid a wide region of monster-infested wilderness where a dragon has come to lay claim to the entire area as its personal hunting grounds. The monsters already present are now threatening Phandalin and its people. If you and your allies are going to save the townsfolk, you must work together to gain allies, face the oncoming threats, and eventually take down the dragon itself. Sometimes lighthearted, sometimes serious, Dragon of Ice Spire Peak is an excellent introduction to the world of Dungeons and Dragons. The game will bring you from rank novice adventurers to seasoned, dungeon-delving pros, with a gamemaster who has brought many first-time players into the hobby. Characters will explore the region around Phandalin, amassing magical treasure, earning goodwill in the town, and gathering clues that will lead to the utlimate location of Cryovain, the White Dragon, who has so upset the balance of the region.

About me

Hail and Well Met, Traveller! Your search is over, for you have found your gamemaster. I am Austin, a life-long player and gamemaster with over 20 years of creating immersive RPG experiences. If you’re like me, then you know how important it is to find the right table. So please let me tell you about myself. Our adventures together will be played out in expansive, highly detailed settings. A brilliant, shining tapestry of towns and villages, dark forests and imposing mountain ranges, sinister ruins and chilling dungeons. These places will be populated with unique and complex non-player characters who provide meaningful and memorable interactions for you – be it the simple barkeep and his family to an imperious, manipulative dragon. All the while, I will craft situations that are meant to engage you from start to finish in the form of strategy-focused combat encounters; perilous, high stakes social situations; and complex puzzles that blend character abilities and player acuity. Every adventure is designed to ensure that your experience is fun and rewarding. I am a long-time hobbyist who has spent most of his life playing RPGs. What started with a love of the Robotech RPG from Palladium quickly developed into an obsession with all things Role-playing. I've run games in Rifts, Robotech, World of Darkness, Dungeons and Dragons, and Pathfinder, and I love every minute of it. My games are LGBQT+, POC, and Neurodivergent welcoming. Though I live in Switzerland, I am a native English speaker from the United States. I look forward to gaming with you soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

The first session will include a 1.5 hour session 0 wherein I will help you choose a character from the pre-generated characters I have to choose from. Players who wish to make their own should follow the steps outlined in the Roll20 Charactermancer, DnD Player's Handbook, or Basic Rules, using the Standard Array for ability scores. Those characters should be made after the session 0 is over. As this is a beginner game, player options may only be taken from the Player's Handbook or Basic Rules. Characters should either be Good or Neutral aligned.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have access to - A Free Roll20 account - A Free Discord account - A computer with a mic I will send a link to my discord server, which we will use for video and/or voice.

What Austin brings to the table

I will be bringing my Roll20 Plus account with the official adventure module, and a collection of books in the compendium. I love to do character voices, make my own tokens for creatures and npcs, and make combats that are compelling and challenging without being overwhelming. I stick to the rules as written and try to be open to checking the rules (when there's time) to ensure that the game is as fair and fluid as possible. I encourage my players to familiarize themselves with their character sheets and aim to arm them with the knowledge of how to work in Roll20 and with the rules of D&D.

How Austin creates a safe table

During our Session 0 we will go over the game's Lines and Veils as well as any that the players wish to go over. I am always open to private messages on Discord to ask for a fade-to-black, or a pause if a particular situation is outside the bounds of what a player feels is acceptable.
