Character creation
Creating your character

Players can use either use the Point Buy or Roll for Attributes (Roll 4 6 sided die, drop the lowest). All official D&D material is available for character creation. Session 0 will be held to smooth over characters and their backstories, as well as go over safety tools and special rules following this campaign, including flanking, a flop and crit tables, and more.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

We will be playing on Roll20, and use Discord for voice and chat, but please let me know if this is not viable and we will work out a solution. Players who have not should take some time to read over the opening of the Player's Handbook, and think about character idea they might want to create. DM will be available to help new players shape these ideas, provide useful resources, and help players get into character!

What Esquire brings to the table

Flexible GM, I will provide the maps and music! Rule of Cool can always apply where fitting, but more often than not we will be using lightly modified Rules as Written when the situation arises.

Homebrew rules

Potions are a bonus action, a reaction if you can show on camera that you can chug a small glass of water or chosen liquid in under 6 seconds. There will be a flop and crit table to be voted on in session 0! Flanking can also be discussed at session 0, and I will be running a unique mechanic I like to call "Reactionary Reactions". In essence, a bunch of reactions, at the risk of a roll. The first reaction is free, but you can take other reactions subject to a DC dependent on the action. Can you counter-spell but already used your reaction? Are you in range to block an arrow for someone? The DM will tell you what resource is needed, if anything, and you make a roll to see if you make it! But if not... there might be consequences...!

Safety
How Esquire creates a safe table

These modules makes mention of or otherwise feature some sensitive topics some people may not be comfortable with. I've run it with others before, and was fine editing it for the player's sake. This campaign will have a Session 0 where we go over safety tools for players, which will include a Consent in Gaming Form handed out beforehand to be filled out so we know what lines not to cross. We will also be utilizing "Stars and Wishes" for when the session ends, to know what players liked most about the session, and what they would like to see more of in future! However, should a player need a break, then the DM offers a "Skip Content" policy, to have the player cease for a moment, before notifying them when they can come back to the table after the fact.
