Tales From Ravens Hollow | Newbie Friendly |
Raven's Hollow: a cursed forest or dread prison? Ol'Man Jak, A Pirate Lord, wages eternal war. Board a ship, brave the curse! Join Him or Resist Him.
About the adventure
In the Wild Lands on the Eastern reaches of the Sea of Fallen Stars lies a port town. Superficially, Raven’s Hollow is nestled in the Rawlingswood forest, providing the town in its area with ample lumber as trade. In truth, Raven’s Hollow is a Dread Domain where the Raven Queen has imprisoned one notorious being, “Ol’Man Jak” the Pirate Lord, who once razed the Port City of Luskin to the ground over the loss of his crew. He now wages an eternal war seeking vengeance for his fallen allies against all coastal towns and villages. Your adventurers will board a ship and meet on route to Raven’s Hollow to start their story. Will they stop “Ol’Man Jak” or will they fall prey to the curse set upon him and join in his Great Pirate War? Satiate your curiosity and get a taste of a grand adventure filled with a cast of characters that inhabit the cursed landscape.

About me
Hello there! My name is Jecht, and I have been wholeheartedly obsessed with TTRPGs since a vampire ripped the head off of my young silver dragon “Seymor” at the tender age of 13. My first character faced his untimely end from a frustrated senior DM whom I annoyed into letting me roll said dragon. I learned quickly from there and experienced a whole galaxy of systems. while The systems I have the most experience with are Dungeons & Dragons editions 3.5 and 5th, and Old World of Darkness. Besides DMing a myriad of systems for friends, I have also spent years DMing online for D&D Adventurers League and DMing a few tables for the Adventurers League Servers' contribution to Let's Play a Game Foundation. I tend to craft small but detailed story environments for my player to explore and engage in. In each town I send you to, you will know at least a handful of the NPCs”s have detailed sheets of characterization and story elements that may never be touche,d but they are there to be found and engaged with at leisure. On the flip side. I love meticulously crafting dungeons. From every tile, Trap and Monster are tailored to expectations or skill. Personally, I'm a married Non-Binary They/all. Father of one Little Snotling who garners all of my favor, I am an avid devourer of SciFi novels with an insatiable appetite for good fiction. Please do check out my list further on in the profile. I enjoy my TRPGs and Open World RPGS, Big Fan of Hairbrained Schemes, ShadowRun, The Jagged Alliance series, Anything Owlcat. Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout New Vegas, and of course Kotor. Anything with deep wordbuilding and in-depth character creation has me hooked. And I am also an avid fisher and camper. Not that i catch many fish, but a line and my toes in the water is a good excuse to crack open a book. I’m excited to start running games again and hope this platform will help me garner good and consistent groups. While i loved running “D&D Adventurers League,” the pick-up style of it wore on me it will be nice to get back to a steady, consistent group where Deep Characterization and roleplay can be had. Thanks for stopping by my page.

Creating your character
We will mainly follow Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition (2014) for character creation. Please see the few notes on Homebrew rules below as well. We will cover character creation in Session Zero. Anything you can buy on Beyond is welcome ( I have the right to restrict if it is unreasonably broken), and homebrew will be considered if you approach me about it.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
For this game, you will need Discord, and, preferably, a D&D Beyond account. I will be using Foundry to host the VTT. Characters can be made on either DDB can be imported into Foundry for ease, and i will be sharing what books i have on there.
What Jechti brings to the table
This campaign will be a good blend of Survival/Travel, Combat, and roleplaying. Dungeons to be discovered and explored. A Deep, Endless forest that actively tries to hamper your progress. Small but detailed towns and villages for you to interact with the inhabitants.
Homebrew rules
__**Jecht’s House Rules for 5e**__ The following is a compilation of the house rules that Jecht typically brings to his table, whichever game he happens to be running. Keep in mind, this is an ever evolving list, so these may be subject to change. **WE FOLLOW THE RULE OF COOL** This probably doesn’t have to be said, but sometimes a cool idea doesn’t merit a role in favor of creativity, and sometimes rules can be bent in favor of fun. **INSPIRATION +** Spending Inspiration can provide a wide variety of other benefits, and Inspiration may be traded among Characters if they roleplay a brief scene (Like a pep talk). Inspiration may be spent to: +Grant Advantage to a roll. +Allow a character to reroll any of their own dice results once. +To ignore the effects of a level of Exhaustion for the duration of a combat or scene. +Increase a character’s Initiative result by +10. +Gain the maximum benefit from spending a Hit Dice during a Short Rest. +Recover 1 spell slot during a Short Rest. +To “remember” that a character had purchased an item that was not previously in their inventory. Must also require the necessary funds to purchase the item, and said funds are spent along with the Inspiration. +To “remember” that they have a pre-established relationship with a local NPC who could be used as a contact. The DM has final say on the nature of this relationship.( Setting Dependent) **CHARACTER CREATION & LEVELING** __Big Brains Bonuses__ Characters gain a number of additional tool proficiencies and/or languages equal to their Intelligence Modifier at character creation. __Providing a Backstory May Provide a Bonus Feat__ By providing a backstory, a character may begin with a bonus feat tied to that backstory. This feat must be approved by the DM. __Continuing Education__ At 6th, 12th and 18th level, a character may receive +1 ASI. Alternatively, they may also gain 1 skill proficiency and 2 new languages, tool or vehicle proficiencies. This bonus applies to *class level* not *character level.* __Aesthetic Ancestry__ Half-species not detailed, beast-like races, construct races and planetouched races have a wide variety of aesthetic and cosmetic flexibility, but will not have mechanical changes not already detailed in published material. *Example - a half-dwarf/half-orc cannot have resistance to poison and relentless endurance; mechanically, this character is either a Dwarf or a Half-orc, or an Orc. However, they may be short, broad, bushy-bearded, tusked, and slightly green. * There will be a Full list that we will go over in session zero on the Discord.
