The Grey Guard
Back in the day, were you a renowned swordsman, a most cherished bard or the vilest of rogues? That chapter has passed yet your hardest task awaits
About the adventure
You're between the ages of 70 and 80, your lower back aches and your knees grunt. Especially because you've traveled so much in your youth, fought in dozens of battles and endured a plethora of difficult trials. However, your current King has begun warring against a powerful empire which is bent on conquering your province. To prevent that from happening, you decide that to protect the persons you care about most, you need to embark on a journey, that might very well be your last. From earlier times, you recall a legend about an artefact, capable of turning the tides of war with ease. This weapon is said to lie somewhere on a massive island which has been overrun by the unliving for the past century. Find the artefact, retrieve it before time runs out and deliver it to your kingdom. ''This journey would have been much easier at an earlier chapter, but alas, not all legends are sprinkled with youth.'' This game will have you portray an individual beyond his prime, how do you envision him/her? Was he a blade-master who cannot come to grips with his failing strength? Is she a snob wizard who sustains her beauty by means of magic? Or perhaps someone who, even while standing on death's door, still retained his child-like curiosity? Sidenotes: - the precise time and day of the game is still up for debate, when the party has assembled we can set the campaign on a different day/hour - suitable for new and experienced players - Session 0 is free of charge and will include a 90 minute play-test. This should solidify whether this game is right for you

About me
Tabletop games open the possibility for great experiences. If done right, they can be deeply fulfilling and meaningful. I've read plenty of highly rated fantasy books, seen just about every relevant fantasy movie and read countless texts regarding myth and story-telling. All of these elements combined comprise my GM fuel which allows me to give players a strong ''theatre of the mind'' experience and create moments where they can let their inner creativity manifest. I have been actively GM-ing since 2019, the longest campaign lasted 3 years (bi-weekly schedule). I have had players of all ages at my table, still friends with plenty of them to this day. My favourite, fantasy writers: Joe Abercrombie & GRR Martin novels: First Law saga, Song of Ice and Fire, Witcher books, Dark tower fantasy TV series: Game of Thrones, 90's Hercules(nostalgia), fantasy movies: LoTR, 1st Jurassic Park(nostalgia) game: Witcher 2&3, God of War first trilogy, Final Fantasy 9 I prefer the stories we tell at the table to be in the vain of gritty fantasy while maintaing a degree of humour which works well within a darker setting. I highly enjoy giving players plenty of freedom. If they want to ignore the main quest and instead rally all the hyenas in a neighbouring savannah, announce themselves supreme beast-masters to the neighbouring kingdoms, then lead the gargantuan host of hyenas and storm the white walls of Minas Tirith? I'm all for that.

What IvanGMT brings to the table
Most of the game will consist of the players interacting with the game world and each other. RP efforts are rewarded with ingame bonuses. Action is divided into ''cutscene'' moments and traditional combat. Cutscenes: moments where an action needs to be made due to dangerous/challenging circumstances. This is resolved by the dice and player creativity Traditional combat: An average encounter in my game lasts about 30 minutes, with the exception of tougher fights which can last an hour. About half my sessions go by without traditional combat
Homebrew rules
There are some, we'll talk about them on session 0. If a player introduces a good home-brew mechanic, we can use it.
