About the adventure

Your friend Arjen has disappeared in the depths of the local Woods and hasn’t been seen for 3 days. He was armed only with his hunting knife and you heard him say “I'm going to look at that Old Cabin in the Woods". As Arjen has not returned, you and a group of friends rally together to find your intrepid friend. This easy to play D&D game is designed as an introduction to D&D. You'll need no prior knowledge or do any reading rules, as you'll be guided each step of the way. We'll have a quick chat about what things you'd like to do and I'll advice on good choices from the pre-made characters and with that you’ll be ready to play. Come join us and have a fun time…

About me

I’m a big fan of you the player and love to see the party succeed but not because the adventure was easy, but because you triumphed against the odds. I'm known as Japes (jay-ps) in IRL as well. GMing is something I’ve been doing for a long time as I started when the D&D Blue box set came out. Its waxed and waned over the years, as other life events took presidents. In 2020 I found I had the time to GM more as my daughter had started her A levels (UK exams and has now finishing her degree… yes I’m a proud Dad). One online game running on Roll20 turned into many and some of those players have played through a few campaigns settings and a couple are still at the table. I’ve since moved to FoundryVTT and haven’t looked back. Still like to play across the table but times have changed and online is far more popular. Now I run a variety of games systems. Alien RPG, Discworld, D&D, Call of Cthulhu and from time to time Blades in the Dark. You’ll find Dyslexia rules KO here, as does a dry sense of humour. Everyone is welcome at these game tables, regardless of your ethnicity, background, or how you identity. All I ask is that you treat others with mutual respect, so we can focus on having an amazing time. Bring your creativity to the table and embrace your dream character – whether that’s a D&D Fairy Barbarian, a Firbolg Monk, or in Call of Cthulhu a 1920’s black female FBI agent. It is a gateway to your adventure!

A great GM who I have really enjoyed a lot playing with. His prep work is flawless which ensures the gameplay to extend to the max during game sessions. He's punctual and flexible to extend a session whenever there is consent. He's really skilled with Foundry VTT with really great maps, visual effects and lighting. He really knows how to manage his table and is open to positive and negative feedback.

Japes is always well prepared, prompt and runs a fun game. His knowledge of the technology is amazing, and he was very patient with my non-tech brain when I first started and had no idea how to use everything. I love his sense of humour and his play style, thanks Japes

I'm currently playing in an ongoing campaign with Japes, and it’s been a fantastic experience. The world is rich and immersive with a story that’s been unfolding in compelling and unexpected ways. Japes has a real talent for pacing and narrative structure—each session builds naturally on the last, with enough intrigue and momentum to keep you coming back eager for more. The tone is consistent, the stakes feel real, and there's always something meaningful driving the adventure forward. What I really appreciate is the clarity and confidence Japes brings to the table. Sessions are well-organized and smooth, with a strong sense of direction. It’s easy to feel invested in the story and in the party’s journey. Highly recommended for players who enjoy a well-crafted, story-driven campaign with great structure and consistent quality.

Creating your character

For this one-shot we'll be using pre-made characters. You'll choose between 12 different characters. If needed I can advice on their strengths and how they play in game. The characters will be 4th level, have a magical weapon and a healing potion.

Safety
How Japes creates a safe table

Safety & Inclusion are a high priorities in my games. You'll find a fun gaming environment, and when you sign up I'll ask for your Lines & Veils. Your part in the adventure 🔍 You and your fellow adventurers choices will shape the story. Expect it to be fun and filled with the unexpected, that will keep you on your toes. 🧾 No need to learn anything beforehand as I’ll explain as needed, how and why things are done. Be that dice rolls, moving your character on the map and anything else. This gets you into having fun, which is what you’re here for.
