About the adventure

A palace to conquer, a legend to unravel, a ruby to find. The palace is a large castle/dungeon, and can be expanded by the DM upon request. The module will continue over weeks into an expected few months. A very early module. This module comes with a wider region to explore as well, and it very easily leads into further modules (like In Search of the Unknown). Taking the palace won’t be easy, but it will be an excellent base for brave heroes if evil can be vanquished. Difficulty: moderate. A harder difficulty is available involving cursed monsters.

About me

I am an experienced DM of twenty years, and started with playing AD&D 2nd ed in the 90s. Ran many games since I took up DMing, finished many campaigns. Gone through many systems, but come back to AD&D, along with being a champion of lesser-known Goblin Slayer. What brought me back to AD&D? What has really drawn me in, is running the classic AD&D and early D&D modules. Palace of the Silver Princess, In Search of the Unknown, Horror on the Hill. Finished them all as the DM. Over the next decade, I aim to get through most of the early modules with my players, and to truly experience D&D from the start. There are so many adventures here, that I never got to experience in the 90s and 2000s, but it turns out I love running them. Being the ‘forever DM’ is not a curse. What I am bringing as an AD&D DM is the chance to push and fight through these early modules. Many are highly regarded, but there isn’t always the chance to play them unless you know old Grognards. Hiring me for this purpose means you can play these modules. We will see what they have to offer, see if we can survive. The traps, the monsters, the riddles... I see my players as dungeoneers taking on the challenge. Be brave my dungeoneers. As a Goblin Slayer DM, I have been really impressed by this lesser-known system. It’s focus on fatigue and Latin or chants in spellcasting makes it feel quite different to others. You can even die of fatigue, and you will learn some Latin while playing it. That isn’t the norm elsewhere. Goblin Slayer TRPG starts with two adventures, and more ideas and plots are available in the manga and novels. That game is very beginner friendly, the system is easy to understand, and it can become the start of a longer campaign. I run games at night (in Australia), but can also run early morning for my players to suit an international audience. It is hard to tell the time inside a dungeon after all.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters begin level 2, or multiclass up to 1/1/1. Feel free to create them beforehand if you know the AD&D rules, or we will gen first session (it is easy), and I can help you on Discord. The standard rules apply from the Players handbook, and ability score generation is roll 4d6 for each ability score, drop the lowest die, and no 1s (6-18 range). I like strong characters.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Webcam and mic. Discord account. Create characters before the session, or ask for help, or we do it in the first session. AD&D is very straightforward at level 2. Here is our discord: https://discord.gg/4uNwrkQP

What DM Trev Dungeoneer brings to the table

Plenty of combat, plenty of exploration and dungeoneering, watch out for traps! I will prepare the Discord server, and have the rooms ready (follow the module title). The module is ready, and has been run before. Theatre of the mind with clear explanation on distances. Players can map, or the map will be shared as explored if needed.

Homebrew rules

Crtis deal double damage (all), monsters also can crit.

How DM Trev Dungeoneer creates a safe table

As we go through this old & excellent module, players can expect old school gaming. Bring pen and paper (for mapping and notes). Using Discord is essential, it is free. Feel free to bring your own dice. I trust you. Dice rollers can kill characters (stuck on 2, stuck on 5), so I suggest real dice.
