About the adventure

You are vampiric residents of Montreal. And you're in trouble. Decently-sized trouble, too. Whatever you did (and that's up to you, but we can brainstorm) has left you indebted to the Sheriff of the city, a devious and self-serving Brujah called Olin. See, Olin caught you doing whatever you were doing, but instead of reporting you or just punishing you himself, he decided to let you walk - in exchange for a Boon. He's held this boon over you for a while now, but tonight he finally came around with a way for you to repay it and get out from under his thumb. You and a couple of other luckless fangs. See, there's this bar, Le Folichon, which opened a few months back. A sort of cabaret, with various forms of salacious entertainment for the mortals - and a special backroom called The Cloakroom, just for fangs like you. Exclusive, too - only Kindred of a certain standard need to apply to join, though rumor has it occasionally some street-level fang would get a special invitation. But you never did. Turns out that may not have been such a bad thing, since as Olin puts it: "Some of the dregs that have been invited to attend have not been seen since." Olin knows something is up, but he wants to get an idea what it is first, in case it's worth getting his own grubby little hands on himself. That's where you come in. Or rather, go in. "You get yourselves in there, see what they're cookin', and report to me. Do that, and I'll wipe your slate clean, and maybe even find my way to whispering sweet nothings about you to the Harpy. What do you say?" What can you say? Now, to secure an invite... This will be a RP-heavy story with mystery, skulking about, investigation, and social conflict as you try to get into the club, and then deal with whatever is going on in there. Expect intrigue, mystery, a bit of horror, and a whole lot of role-play.

About me

I teach in College, and it always astounds me that I've been playing ttrpgs for longer than my students have been alive - by a lot. That's over thirty years of rolling dice and creating worlds and making funny voices at a table surrounded by friends! I've mostly been a GM or DM for most of those, and creating worlds, writing adventures, and sharing them with a group of people who then get to make them their own and take them in totally unexpected directions has been one of my great joys. I currently stream several games on Twitch with Folk&Myth, the AP Production studio I co-founded. You can find all my work on twitch or YouTube (links on my webpage). I love creating a sense of discovery and wonder in my games, and always strive to surprise players. I prefer RP-heavy games, though I also believe that combat and conflict resolved through tactics or dice-rolls can be a great source of fun, and add a great dynamic to any game. My strengths are imagination, NPC role-play, my sense of humor, and my ability to keep surprising players. As a teacher, I also have a strong sense of conflict resolution, and the ability to help guide along people with less experience. I strive to create meaningful games, rich in atmosphere and engaging themes. I strongly believe in a sense of equality and respect around my table, and provide safety tools to help us all better enjoy our gaming moments. TTRPGs are all about a shared sense of creation and storytelling, where we empower each other around the table to create meaningful and emotional connections. I invite both players new to the hobby, as well as veterans, to come join me on some fun adventures! I specialize in the following games: Vaesen, Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings 5e, Shadowrun 3rd, Kult: Divinity Lost, Dragonbane, D&D 5E, as well as a host of others. I'm always happy to learn a new system for special requests! Find me here: https://linktr.ee/TheBleakseason

Having only just started a new game of Dark Ages Vampire 20th Anniversary with Bleakseason, I have nothing but good things to say. First between sessions 0 and 1, bleak went out of his way to communicate with everyone, hear out our ideas, and offered great suggestions in helping us to weave our character stories together to form a tightly cohesive group. Come time for our first actual game - Bleak was professional. Great use of background music to set the mood, excellent and vivid descriptions, engaging NPCs with improv that was very well done. He speaks of himself as an ST that cares about RP and I believe that to be absolutely true. Looking forward to our campaign to come!

Bleak is a top notch GM, creates a really enjoyable experience. He’s great at helping players build synergy in RP and at giving evocative, thematic descriptions. I plan to to play at his table again one day, not a matter of if, but when. Highly recommended.

I've played a lot of games with a lot of different GMs and I can confidently say that Chris is a great GM. He sets the right tone for fun (in our game with some music, with some quality character voices) and enjoys what he is doing. You will undoubtedly have a good time with him, whether you're a long-time RPG expert or a first-time player just trying it out. I highly recommend Chris as your GM.

I've had the privilege of being a player in several different games with Bleakseason! He has always brought an extremely compelling story, crafted to the players and characters in each game. The world feels alive and there are always fun and interesting characters. Every game has brought me on an emotional journey, and I can't wait to play again. I have always felt safe at Bleakseason's table and find it very easy to become in immersed in whatever world we are playing in.

This was my first time playing Vaesen, Bleakseason took the time to go over the basic rules, each of the classes we played as well as other tips and tricks that helped the session move along smoothly while keeping the suspense of the scenario. Highly recommend.

Character creation
Creating your character

Players will have two options: 1- They can choose from a number of pre-generated characters, or... 2- they can create a free account on Demiplane, and provide me with their user name. I will then share my book collection, and players will make their characters there. I will require that players send me a brief blurb about their character concept, and we can discuss it as much as players would like. Characters will be Ancillae, less than 50 years as vampires.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Players will need to have a Discord account and be willing to join my game server where I get everything organize, and where we play. If players wish to make their own characters, they will need a Demiplane account. That is all players will need to prepare.

What Bleakseason (Folk & Myth/VtM Montreal) brings to the table

We play in Discord, and use Demiplane for character creation and for rolling dice. Players are welcome to use pen & paper, and to roll physical dice. For VTT, I use Owlbear which doesn't require anything from the players except to click on a link. I use several maps, including animated ones if the players' computers can handle them. Cameras are encouraged but not required. I use a library of of music that I play through Discord for the players, and make use of non-AI generated images for character portraits and atmosphere. I tend to embrace Rule of Cool, and while I mostly stick to the rules in the book, I do have some variations which I will explain up front. I will also provide a rules cheat sheet. I prioritize RP and skill use over combat, but there may be a bit of combat here and there.

Homebrew rules

I use a slightly stripped won version of V5 rules (I do not use some of the blood rules, for example) but otherwise it's mostly As Written.

Safety
How Bleakseason (Folk & Myth/VtM Montreal) creates a safe table

Each player will fill out a list of their Lines & Veils. I will hold a Session 0. The card system is used in chat. The L&V will be shared anonymously to everyone. I take comfort and safety *very seriously*, and will expect players to do the same. The World of Darkness is a dark place, and we take all precautions to travel it safely. We will dedicate time at the end of the session for a come-down chat! I will be available at all times to answer questions and discuss the contents of the game with players. As a professional streamer of TTRPG APs, safety and comfort are core to my approach to online games.
