About the adventure
Welcome to Fabula Ultima: Pilot Episode, a beginner-friendly one-shot designed as the perfect introduction to Fabula Ultima, a tabletop RPG inspired by classic Japanese role-playing games like Final Fantasy, Persona, and many others. Whether you're new to TTRPGs entirely or just curious about this system, this session will guide you through the rules, mechanics, and storytelling style of Fabula Ultima—all wrapped up in a dramatic, anime-style adventure. You’ll step into the roles of bold, ambitious heroes thrown into the middle of a crisis: a mysterious beam of energy has damaged your airship and forced a crash landing near an ancient ruin—once a thriving city, now a crater filled with forgotten magic and ominous power. As imperial agents stir and ancient forces awaken, you'll learn to explore, roleplay, and engage in stylish turn-based combat—one step at a time, with the GM walking you through each mechanic. This session is structured like the pilot episode of an anime series, with clear goals, dramatic encounters, and a cinematic conclusion that leaves room for future episodes. We’ll cover how to use Traits and Bonds, how Initiative and Combat work, how to support your allies and set your personal goals—all in a supportive, low-pressure environment that encourages creativity and collaboration. If you enjoy anime-style stories about found family, rebellion against corrupt empires, magical mysteries, and high-stakes drama with emotional payoffs, this is the place to start. No experience required—just bring your imagination and a willingness to dive into the unknown.

Creating your character
Pre-generated characters will be provided for this one-shot. You’ll step into the shoes of fully realized heroes—each with unique abilities, motivations, and Bonds. Characters will be created and available in Roll20 before the game begins, so there’s no prep required on your part. We’ll be starting at Level 5, giving you access to exciting skills and powers without overwhelming complexity. If you're curious about or prefer building your own characters, I'll gladly assist in the process so we have them ready for the session!

What FinalBossAshley brings to the table
As your GM, I’m here to bring the world to life and make sure everyone has a great time. You can expect: * 🎵 **Thematic music and ambient sound** to set the mood—dramatic battles, quiet mystery, or lighthearted moments, it’s all there. * 🎭 **Character voices** and expressive NPCs to make the world feel dynamic and personal. * 📚 **Helpful resources and summaries**, including a quick intro to Fabula Ultima mechanics, pre-generated character sheets, and reference materials right in Roll20. My GM style leans **heavily into narrative and player-driven action**. I embrace a **“Yes, and...” / “No, but...”** approach to build momentum, rewarding creativity and initiative. I’m flexible with the rules when it makes for a better story (Rule of Cool > Rules as Written), and I value tone, character arcs, and good table vibes over strict optimization or crunchy tactics.
Homebrew rules
No homebrew rules will be used in this one-shot. This session is designed as a tutorial to teach new players the core mechanics of Fabula Ultima as written. The focus is on learning the basics of the system through play.

Safety
How FinalBossAshley creates a safe table
Player safety and comfort are top priorities. Before the game begins, we’ll review a **Lines and Veils** list to establish clear boundaries—these will be provided digitally and can be updated at any time. We’ll also use the **X, N, and O safety tools** throughout the session, either via text in Roll20/Discord or through voice/video, depending on comfort level. This one-shot includes a brief **Session 0 check-in** to go over tone, boundaries, and player expectations. After the session, we’ll have a few minutes of **aftercare discussion** to decompress, share highlights, and check in emotionally. The game is built around **collaboration, consent, and care**, and players are encouraged to speak up or message privately if anything becomes uncomfortable. This is a welcoming space for all experience levels and identities.
