About the adventure
5e D&D (2014), but you're all forest critters! Humblewood is Hit Point Press' beautiful alternate world of Birdfolk and Humblefolk. You can play a big tough Strig (Owl), or a clever Mapach (Raccoon)! You can glide as a Gallus (Chicken!)or help your friends as a Jerbeen (Mouse)! It's a world of animals, something like the old Richard Scarry books, Disney's Adventures of Robin Hood or Redwall. My play style is light and player-facing. I'm a fan of the characters, and my instinct is to say Yes, And? rather than No, You Can't.

About me
Retired after thirty years in the public service. I do art, photography, cosplay, and of course TTRPGs. I've been playing games since the eighties. TTRPGs have evolved since the days of ten-foot-poles and monster morale rolls; nowadays GMs are here to tell a story, and to be fans of the characters. I ran a series of streaming games for Penny Dragon Games (find the playlist on YouTube (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCWws3fC3064NPNHQtj7ecoSB7SRD2Xz4). Ask me anything!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
I use Roll20 because Humblewood is available on that platform for character creation. Players will make characters using the Standard Array, and get a bonus Feat at level one. Players must choose a Humblewood race to make their characters, but don't worry there are a lot to choose from, and lots of options within each type. For example within the Mapach race, you can be anything from a raccoon (the default) to a ferret, skunk, otter or pine marten. Within the Gallus race, you can be a fancy chicken (the default) or a quail, partridge, peacock or pheasant. There are no humans, elves, dwarves, etc. in Humblewood - nothing with a human face, including apes. Even though each animal type has suggested stat bonuses, I allow players to put their bonus stats anywhere they like. We'll play a Session Zero where our players make their characters and get into a tiny bit of trouble in Meadowfen.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You need a mic, and a webcam is optional. I run my games on Roll20 for the game, and I use Discord for the video and audio. I'll make a blank character sheet available for each player before the first session if they want to start on their character but I'll make the first 1.5 hours of the first session a pure character creation, party-bonding activity. Note the majority of players do not use a webcam, and that's perfectly ok. As long as you can see me!
What Richard brings to the table
I'll provide the Roll20 account: players do not need to pay extra to participate in Roll20, but they will need to create a free account. I make all my own maps and I provide character art and tokens for all of the players! We'll use Discord to talk to each other.
Homebrew rules
I have a document on my Patreon (for free) that spells out most of my home rules. And yes, potions are a bonus action! Healing potions get a die roll on bonus action, and max effect on full action. https://www.patreon.com/posts/richards-5e-2014-130355132

How Richard creates a safe table
My games are inclusive and player-facing. I reward players for role-play, laughter and great ideas. I won't tolerate bullying and bad behaviour. On Roll20, the X card will be easy to access and use.
