About the adventure
This is a tense, dark, gritty survival horror campaign intended to run for 3 arcs (roughly 2 sessions per arc). Players will begin as characters dealing with the immediate aftermath of a worldwide outbreak - a virus that causes the dead to awaken and hunt the living. The second and third arcs will jump forward in time, exploring the group's progress and the state of the world a month and a year after Z-day. Expect a high level of danger, and deadly consequences. As well as potentially dark themes, although there is room for light and comedic beats if it fits with the table's vibe. Character deaths are expected, with the time jumps across the arcs allowing new characters to join the group should need be. The Illuminated Worlds system is relatively rules light, especially around combat, meaning that players should expect a more narrative experience with a lot of freedom and room for creative problem solving. Note: This game is a little bit of an experiment for me to use the Illuminated Worlds ruleset (from Candela Obscura) in a Zombie Horror setting - hopefully together we can discover how suitable the ruleset fits the setting!

About me
I'm a forever DM that has been running games for around 10 years. I mainly focus on DND 5E, but i've dabbled in various other TTRPG systems. I'm passionate about teaching the game and love starting new campaigns and one-shots with brand new players to get them started. My style is rule of cool, fun first and rules light, so don't be afraid if you've never touched a TTRPG before, we'll make it work!

Creating your character
Character Creation will be done in the discord - You can read up on the Illuminated Worlds/Candela Obscura rules for familiarity, but it's a pretty simple system to jump into. Due to the homebrew nature of the campaign setting i'll ask you to create characters through a general description and around a framework of questions, and then we'll build out a custom character sheet for you.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Games will be run on discord with a webcam and mic. Physical dice or dice rolling websites are fine, however you prefer. Custom character sheets for your characters will be provided by me once we have an idea of who you're playing, so no need to worry about that.
What Krimson brings to the table
I aim to create a flexible, open game that gives a lot of freedom for character and group decisions. Illuminated Worlds is a relatively rules light system anyway, and focuses on collaborative storytelling rather than 'DM vs. the player' - especially in combat. Players should expect danger and be comfortable with character injury or death, as well as a darker setting fitting for horror and the zombie apocalypse genre.

How Krimson creates a safe table
Using the Monte Cook RPG Consent checklist, we'll identify any topics that players feel uncomfortable with and avoid them. Post-session we will debrief and allow players to identify any issues, enabling us to work on those to create a great experience for everyone. This is a horror campaign with both a supernatural threat and the threat and moral choices that come from the desperation to surive, so strong themes should be expected from the start.
