Valor: the Heroic Roleplay System | Campaign

About the adventure

Valor: The Heroic Roleplay System is hands-down my favorite RPG, and I'd like to show you why! Join us for the Build an Anime Workshop - where I'll walk you through making a setting and characters and running through the first season of a Valor game. I've seen people run successful tributes to Gundam, Touhou, Persona, Jojo's, Pretty Cure and even the X-Men - what kind of original valor adventure will we run together?

Game style

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

I have LOVED playing DnD with Talia. I was new to the game and very nervous about getting started. She made it seamless, fun, and challenging all at once. It has been a blast - engaging, entertaining, intriguiging and ever so very, very creative. I have been so impressed by her patience, her story telling, her quick wit, and the room for players to learn and be creative. Thank you so much for this great experience.

Talia is a great GM! Fun, focused, encouraging us to embrace unique characters, and willing to help explaining the new features of Roll20 (I personally missed a bunch of updates since 2018, and it was invaluable to have someone walk me through it). Definitely recommend!

They worked hard on coming up with not only teaching how to create a character but worked very hard to come up with a campaign pitch that was fun and engaging.

A good story, grounded, and there's plenty of room for adventure, roleplay and fun.

Additional details

How to prepare

You should have a proper laptop or desktop computer, as Roll20 is difficult to manage without a large enough screen. I also suggest having a microphone, though a webcam will not be necessary; we'll be using my Discord channel for voice chat and music. Roll20 will manage the character sheets and even the dice rolls for you. While I'll provide enough of the rules to get by, having a copy of the game is also helpful: you can find it here: https://valorousgames.itch.io/valor-the-heroic-roleplay-system

What I provide

I will bring maps and concept art, help to illustrate your characters post-game, and music - as well as my expertise with the system.

Gameplay details

Without knowing what kind of setting we're creating in advance, we can't be sure of what triggering content there might be until we nail things down - though it's easy enough to predict a tactical combat game will have some level of violence.

How will character creation work

Once we're done with setting creation, players will make 1st level characters. I'll have some example characters from other campaigns I've run, but mostly as a guideline for what a finished character looks like.
