How to prepare

You'll need a computer with an internet connection and a microphone. Webcam is preferred but not required if you don't have one or are more comfortable being cam-off. You'll be able to create or add characters to my D&D Beyond campaign, and you'll need access to Discord. We'll use my Owlbear Rodeo account for VTT. If you have physical dice, great, but if not you'll be able to roll virtual dice through either D&D Beyond or Owlbear. All experience levels are welcome, but if you're more experienced, please be prepared to be patient if we have newer players -- I enjoy and am passionate about introducing people to this hobby, so while I'll try to keep us moving at a good pace, we'll always be open to answering questions or quickly explaining a concept if anyone needs more insight.

What I provide

I strive to deliver immersive, story-driven experiences where character choices truly matter and unexpected consequences often raise their head -- but there's always a chance for heroism to rise and win the day. I strive to mix gritty realism with a sense of wonder and a setting that feels lived-in, dangerous, and full of secrets waiting to be uncovered. For longer campaigns, I weave player backstories and choices into the fundamental fabric of the story, but even in shorter arcs or one-shots, my goal is to let everyone get their moments to shine. Most sessions will feature a well-balanced mixture of exploration, role-playing, and combat, with the occasional puzzle to keep things interesting. Expect a strong narrative focus, grounded in classic fantasy themes with a darker edge. I tailor each mystery to your characters, weaving personal stakes into the plot whenever possible. I embrace the Rule of Cool above all, and will never put the letter of the law ahead of a fun and engaging story. I mostly use the 2014 5e rules, with a few house rules and my own distinct flavor mixed in.

Gameplay details

We will discuss lines and veils either in session zero or privately via chat. I will share the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist. XNOs can be spoken aloud or you will be able to drop a color-coded card onto the VTT screen. We will debrief after to discuss stars and wishes. We will run an open door table, so if you need to step away, just let me know -- we can also pause for a brief break if needed.

How will character creation work

Players will have the option of creating characters together during our session zero or creating their own and introducing them to us during that session. Players will also have access to my D&D Beyond campaign to create character sheets on that platform or add in ones they have previously created. I will also have pre-generated characters available for players who prefer that.
