About the adventure

For days, the road has been gentle—winding through the golden hills and quiet farms of the Greenfields. But as the sun begins to set, tranquility gives way to terror. On the horizon lies Greenest, your destination. Or what’s left of it. Smoke coils into the sky. Buildings burn. Figures scatter through the streets like ants fleeing a kicked nest. And above it all, a shadow blots out the sky—a massive, winged creature sweeping low over the town’s central keep. Greenest is under attack. You didn’t come here looking for war, but fate doesn’t wait for invitations. Whatever path brought you here, it's about to collide with something far greater. Will you run—or rise? This is your story. Set against the backdrop of the Tyranny of Dragons saga (Hoard of the Dragon Queen & The Rise of Tiamat), this campaign puts your characters, your choices, and your consequences at the heart of the narrative. The module is just the framework—you'll be writing the real adventure.

What I provide

As your Dungeon Master, I aim to create an immersive, engaging, and supportive experience for all players—whether you're a seasoned adventurer or brand new to the game. Here's what you can expect from my table: Virtual Tabletop (VTT): We’ll be using a clean, organized VTT(Roll20) setup for combat, exploration, and visual storytelling. Expect smooth map transitions and clear grid-based gameplay. Custom Maps & Tokens: I create and curate detailed maps tailored to each encounter and location. Players will receive custom tokens that visually represent their characters for a more immersive experience. Ambient Music & Soundscapes: I use background music and ambient sound effects to help bring each scene to life—whether it’s the bustling streets of a city, the eerie silence of a dungeon, or the roar of dragonfire. D&D Beyond Integration: I have a Master Tier subscription on D&D Beyond and will share my full compendium of official content, including additional classes, races, spells, and items. Interconnected Backstories: I encourage players to create linked or overlapping backstories, which I’ll weave into the campaign’s larger narrative. This allows for deeper roleplay and meaningful character development. Rules-as-Written meets Rule of Cool — I run the game primarily by the book to ensure clarity and fairness for all players. That said, I’m open to creativity and cinematic moments if they add to the fun and don’t break the flow. Narrative & Roleplay: While I don’t do full-on character voices for every NPC, I vary tone, pacing, and speech patterns to bring personalities to life. Roleplay is highly encouraged, and I strive to create opportunities for personal growth, tension, and humor. My goal is to strike a balance between tactical combat, rich storytelling, and player-driven exploration, in a welcoming and collaborative environment.

Gameplay details

Your comfort and enjoyment matter just as much as your character’s story. As your DM, it’s my responsibility to create a space where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to roleplay boldly—without ever being made uncomfortable or unwelcome. This post outlines how we’ll handle tone, consent, and safety at the table, so you know what to expect from me, and what I’ll expect from everyone else. Tone of the Campaign: This game blends serious narrative, high-stakes fantasy, and character-driven roleplay, with moments of levity, action, and drama. Expect: Deep emotional roleplay and complex decisions Epic combat and heroic risks Some darker themes (war, corruption, cults, etc.) That said, this is still your story, and we’ll navigate heavy content together in a way that respects everyone’s boundaries. Consent & Comfort Tools To ensure everyone feels safe and in control of their experience, we’ll use the following tools: >Monte Cook Consent Checklist Before we begin, I’ll share a private consent form where you can indicate which types of content you’re okay with, what you’d prefer to limit, and what’s a no-go. This gives me clear, private guidance on your boundaries—no explanation required. >X-Card System During play, if something makes you uncomfortable for any reason, you can say “X,” make an X with your hands, or send me a quick message. No explanation is needed. I’ll pivot the scene or skip content immediately, no questions asked. >Open Door Policy Need to pause, step away, or talk something through? Please do. Whether it’s in or out of game, I’m always here to support you. Your voice matters at this table. >Table Culture & Expectations This is a collaborative space. I expect players to: Treat each other with respect and empathy Support each other’s comfort and storytelling Speak up if something feels off—we’ll always talk through it with care and confidentiality There’s zero tolerance for harassment, hate, or behavior that makes others feel unsafe.

How will character creation work

For this campaign, we’re keeping things structured but flexible—giving you the tools to build a rich, compelling character while staying grounded in the world we’ll be exploring together. Race & Class Options Choose from official races in the published Handbooks (with the exception of flying races, for balance). All official classes and subclasses available on D&D Beyond are open for play. Got something homebrew or from another source in mind? Just run it by me first—I’m open to cool ideas that fit the world. Stats & Starting Level We'll be using point buy for ability scores—fair, balanced, and leaves room for creative builds. Characters will begin at Level 2, giving you a little more room to shine right from the start. When & How We Build Come to Session 0 with a character concept in mind—this could be a class, a personality trait, a background hook, or a cool story idea. We’ll finalize characters during Session 0, including stats, gear, and party ties. It’s collaborative, so expect some fun party-building moments. Where We Build All characters will be built on D&D Beyond. I’ll provide access to my Master Tier account, unlocking all official content for you to use—no need to own anything yourself. Leveling System We’re using milestone leveling—you grow stronger as the story progresses, tied to key narrative events and choices, not XP grinding. Need Help? Whether it’s your first character or your fiftieth, I’m here to help with builds, backstories, or refining ideas—before or during Session 0.
