Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Teacher
Lets just say in a veteran GM and player and Ken did not disappoint. Ken puts a lot of time and effort in to his games and also the networking behind it. He was GM for a Monster of the Week game and right from the start added some visual aid and nice links between the characters to build a back story without getting bogged down into it. What stands out his his enthusiasm and people/listening skills. I could tell he was enjoying the game as much as the players and was moving and moulding with the story rather that putting up barriers or putting us up against creatures beyond our power. The roles didn't go great but that's not down to ken, but he rolled with it well(excuse the pun). If you have clicked on Ken's GM profile, then what are you waiting for message him and find out if you can involved with his games.

How to prepare
Getting ready for this Monster of the Week game is easy and fun! Here are some tips to help you hit the ground running: 1. Familiarize Yourself with the Basics If you’re new to Monster of the Week or Powered by the Apocalypse games, I recommend watching a quick overview or an actual play video. Some great resources include: Actual play series like The Adventure Zone: Amnesty or Critical Role: UnDeadwood, which showcase the game’s themes and mechanics. 2. Bring Your Ideas Come prepared to brainstorm your character! Think about what kind of archetype (playbook) appeals to you. 3. Optional Reading If you’re excited to dive deeper, skimming the Monster of the Week rulebook can be helpful, but it’s not required. I’ll provide all the necessary rules during our session. 4. Get in the Mood Watch supernatural TV shows or movies to inspire your character and immerse yourself in the tone of the game. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, and The X-Files are excellent choices! 5. Technical Setup Make sure you have a stable internet connection if we’re playing online. Bring a microphone or headset for clear communication. I’ll provide access to the virtual tabletop or any other tools we’ll use. 6. Relax and Have Fun No preparation is mandatory. Collaborative Gameplay: I encourage creative problem-solving and teamwork, blending rules-as-written with the “Rule of Cool” to ensure the story flows naturally and everyone has fun. Gameplay details
Gameplay Safety Tools: X, N, & O Cards During gameplay, X, N, and O Cards will be used for player comfort: X-Card: Stops the game immediately if a topic becomes uncomfortable. Players can signal this verbally, show it on video, or type an "X" in chat. N-Card: Indicates nearing discomfort, prompting a scene pivot or slowdown. An "N" typed in chat or shown on video works. O-Card: Indicates that players are good to continue or escalate intensity, especially useful in combat or suspenseful moments. To ensure privacy, players can also message these signals directly to me. Debriefing Following each session, I’ll lead a debrief to discuss highlights, challenges, and any points that might have felt intense or uncomfortable. This debriefing will help gauge the group’s comfort, gather feedback, and adjust future sessions to enhance everyone’s experience.

How will character creation work
We’ll begin the game by creating our characters together as a group. This collaborative process allows us to build connections between the characters and weave them seamlessly into the story. You don’t need to come with anything pre-prepared—just bring your ideas and enthusiasm! During character creation, we’ll: Choose your playbook (the archetype for your character). Decide on your character’s abilities, gear, and special moves. Establish the relationships between characters and their roles within the team. Create a shared backstory and discuss how your characters fit into the setting. This process ensures everyone feels included and sets the stage for an engaging and connected story. New players are welcome, and I’ll guide everyone step by step through the process. All you need to do is show up ready to collaborate and have fun!
