Save the Lost City of Urkeshi from an Ancient Evil

Save the Lost City of Urkeshi from an Ancient Evil

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Beneath the shifting sands lies Urkesh, a forgotten city entombed by time, its great ziggurat drowning in darkness. Once a place of worship and sacrifice, now it is a battleground of lost gods and desperate cults. The fragile balance between four ancient powers is shattering—Alam Jamil, the Demon of Exquisite Pleasure, has begun to consume the others, twisting the faithful into instruments of agony and ecstasy. You are called to explore the ruined depths, navigate the treacherous allegiances of the city’s last devotees, and decide how far you will go to stop a growing horror. To prevail, you may need to stain your soul, bargain with zealots, and commit acts that will haunt your characters after you escape… if you escape at all. Will you restore the balance of forgotten divinities, or will an orgy of suffering and mutation swallow Urkesh? A Game of Dark Choices and Ancient Terrors This adventure is steeped in gothic horror, eldritch corruption, and moral dilemmas. Themes of blood magic, fanaticism, transformation, sacrifice, and forbidden pleasure permeate the story. Players will face difficult choices, sometimes with no true "right" answer—only degrees of consequence. Content Warning: This is a mature game featuring graphic horror, religious zealotry, body horror, and themes of moral ambiguity. It is intended for players who enjoy dark fantasy and psychological horror in the vein of horror classics such as Hellraiser. Player boundaries will be respected, and safety tools will be used to ensure a comfortable experience. Enter Urkesh, if you dare.

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Party notes

I encourage players to choose a character based on their enjoyment rather than the party's needs. It may be harder to survive without a healer, but it's more important, in my opinion, that you enjoy what you play!

How to prepare

You will need a good internet connection, a Roll20 account, access to Discord (and join my server), and a headset with a microphone. A separate microphone (without a headset) creates an issue with background noise for other players, so a headset is required. I don't expect my players to know the entire PHB by heart, but a clear understanding of your character's abilities and how the game works is necessary to keep the game moving slowly.

What I provide

We will be using Roll20 for the map, and each player will have control of their token. We use Discord for chat and also voice during the game session. I don't use cameras during my games. My maps, and other artwork are all custom made.

Gameplay details

I am happy to tailor the experience to the players to ensure everyone has a fun time. My game is intended for 18+ players that enjoy a dark horror experience, however, there are some topics that I do not include in the game (such as sexual violence, or details of torture). Before the game starts, or during the game session, you are welcome to message me to say a topic isn't something you want included. My combats are tactical and engaging, and my NPCs are fleshed out with their desires and needs. I balance my games so that every character can shine in their role, whether social, combat, or problem solving.

How will character creation work

Please come to the game with a complete 1st level character. You will be using standard array for your starting ability scores. You are welcome to use any material from an officially published book. However, any material from the Mercer Wildemount book is banned for this game. Before the game starts, you can talk to me on the Discord server about your character and what you want to play. I encourage players to play anything they would like rather than trying to fit into particular roles the group needs. A roving band of bards is just as fun as a mixed group!
