Tales from the Yawning Portal

Tales from the Yawning Portal

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

I’ve always had a soft spot for The Sunless Citadel, it was the very first adventure I played as a D&D player, and it’s stuck with me ever since. That’s why we’ll be kicking off this campaign with The Sunless Citadel, and if we have enough players the plan is to play through all seven adventures in Tales from the Yawning Portal. Of course, you’re welcome to hop in and out between modules if you prefer a more flexible commitment, but I highly recommend experiencing the full journey. These classic adventures are some of the best D&D has to offer, each with its own unique challenges and rewards. The book includes the following dungeons: -The Sunless Citadel -The Forge of Fury -The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan -White Plume Mountain -Dead in Thay -Against the Giants -Tomb of Horrors The campaign spans from level 1 all the way to level 13 and beyond. The difficulty ramps up with each adventure. The Tomb of Horrors, for example, is a legendary deathtrap where only the cleverest (or luckiest) players are likely to survive. These adventures are treasure-filled dungeon crawls, rich with magic items and powerful relics. Between modules, there will be downtime to trade, sell, or purchase magical gear suited to your evolving playstyle.

Game style

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Party notes

For this campaign, we'll be using the 2024 rules, but if you prefer to create your character using the 2014 rules, just let me know in advance and we can talk about it.

How to prepare

You will need a D&D Beyond and a Discord account and a mic so we can talk to eachother.

What I provide

I usually stick to the rules, but not so strictly. My goal is to make the sessions fun for you. I'm a roleplaying-oriented GM, but that doesn't exclude combat, especially in dungeon crawlers. As for the tools, the adventures are basically dungeon crawlers. I used the maps from the book and made them in Dungeon Alchemist. We'll be using Foundry VTT for the games D&D Beyond for character creation (I can share all my content with you) Discord for communication and atmosphere
