By All the Gods: A PbP Adventure for Clerics
Grab your holy symbol and prepare to represent your god as you compete with each other to gain the role of mentor and advisor a young nobleman.
About the adventure
Grab your holy symbol and prepare to represent your god as our group of clerics embark on an adventure that has them competing with each other to gain the role of mentor and advisor a young nobleman. This adventure brings in different twist as the rivals the characters face will not be hordes of Goblins or dragons, but each other. Competition will be in the form of skill challenges, problem solving, and displaying prowess in staged combat, but no actual player versus player combat. Does your servant of a higher power have what it takes to win the competition?

About me
We find ourselves in a blue-hued room belonging to an awkward, nerdy teenage boy on a day when his life is about to be changed forever. For this happens to be the day his father will give him a very special gift. The gift itself is simply a red, rectangular box: the Dungeons and Dragons First Edition Beginner Box. Yes, this was a world of opportunity in which the boy could escape reality by being a character class like fighter, wizard, or…Elf? Yep, I’ve been a TTRP nerd for many decades now and it all started back when Elf and Dwarf were still considered classes, not races or ancestries and THACO was making me practice math way more enthusiastically than my teachers ever could. As I’ve continued forward in my gaming journey, I’ve enjoyed countless hours on both sides of the GM/DM screen, have become a Venture Agent with Pathfinder Society, and I coordinate the DND/Pathfinder Club at the school where I teach. So, what’s kept me invested in the game all this time? In simple terms, the creative freedom. I love playing creative and unique characters (for example, my gunslinger/witch with multiple personality disorder and the dice would determine which personality dominated each round). And as a GM/DM, I love creating an environment where my players can bring their interestingly unique characters and come up with creative and clever routes to take for problem solving…or problem creating as it sometimes becomes. I love creating a table where players can enjoy the sandbox world a TTRPG creates, helping players learn and expand their understanding of these amazing games, and I absolutely love when my players catch me off guard and the story goes places I’d never even thought it could go. I love creating a gaming world where NPC’s are meaningful figures, the places the characters venture are fleshed out locations a player can truly picture, and the world is something that the heroes find worth saving. A seat at my table will be a place where your ideas will be heard, your unique character and individual views will be respected, and we can all learn and grow together in this amazing game.

I've been in a game run by Sean for several months now. Sean is incredibly consistent and regular, providing GMing for the game almost every single day. If you're a fairly active and regular player looking for a PbP game where you can engage just about every day of the week, Sean is rock solid.
Sean makes fun and creative NPCs and settings. All the NPCs felt like different people. He'll also incorporate your character's backstory into the story if you give him one. I felt like I had a lot of different choices for how the story could go. He's very patient with explaining rules too.
I've played in-person Pathfinder with Suburban Dad. He is amazing! He really paid attention to my backstory and weaved it into game play seamlessly. I was brand new and he walked me thru step-by-step and was very patient with my million questions, and also when I couldn't remember the answers to those million questions and I asked again. In those games the story world that he came up with was really immersive and we had a lot of fun! He is a very talented game master! Highly recommend him!
Character creation
Creating your character
Clerics are the expected class for this adventure, though a paladin or other religious themed/appropriate classes may be allowed with GM approval. Players are to create 3rd level characters using either the 2014 or 2024 DND Rulebooks. 3rd party material can be used as long as I am notified ahead of time and have a chance to look it over to OK it. Players are to provide characters sheets to me ahead of time. You will have the option of posting these on DND Beyond, but it is not required. You are free to use whichever character sheet template you prefer. Remember, your character is there to represent their deity, but also there as an individual, so don't be afraid to put some thought into why the church chose to send them: are they the best and brightest, the annoyance they wanted to be rid of, or was there just no one else available at the moment? Don't be afraid to have fun fleshing that out. It will also be significant since each player's journey begins with the solo journey to the keep of the noble lord.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Daily access to Discord will be expected, and while I'd prefer to have every player check the PbP at least once per day, there will definitely be times when posting is not necessary, and of course, life does happen, so RL always trumps gaming and we'll keep the adventure moving, but more slowly, to allow players more time for when sickness happens, life throws extra things into our juggling routine, or adulting is just hard. The expectation in these instances is just healthy communication so we, as a group, know when we need to slow down for you.
What Sean (Suburban Dad Gaming) brings to the table
We will play via Discord (with an Avrae bot for those who prefer that) and I will be providing maps and visual images through a Google Slideshow to help everyone be on the same page for what we're seeing and what the space is. This will include maps for social interactions as well as combat and there will be images for NPCs.

How Sean (Suburban Dad Gaming) creates a safe table
Our session 0 will be for crafting characters (especially for anyone who wants to try to create a non-cleric or multiclass that fits the setting) as well as being a chance to share if anyone has specific triggers that we'll need to avoid in-game.
