Dungeons of Legend (Tales from the Yawning Portal)
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Step through the yawning portal and into danger, glory, and unforgettable tales. This campaign features a rotating selection of classic Dungeons & Dragons adventures from Tales from the Yawning Portal, each one updated for 5th Edition and designed to be played as a standalone story. That means no long-term scheduling required—you can jump into one dungeon, survive (or not), and decide later if you’re ready for the next. From the deadly halls of The Sunless Citadel to the maddening depths of The Tomb of Horrors, each session or short arc is a self-contained adventure packed with exploration, combat, and clever problem-solving. This is an LGBTQ+ friendly table that welcomes both brand-new players and experienced dungeon delvers. I’ll help with character creation, rules explanations, and setting the tone so everyone feels empowered to roleplay and have fun. You’re free to bring your favorite character between modules or build someone new for each tale. Expect a balanced mix of roleplay, tactical encounters, and collaborative storytelling—whether you’re here to chase treasure, uncover ancient secrets, or just cause a little chaos. The Yawning Portal is always open—what tale will you tell next?
Game style
Dungeon Crawl
A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Storytelling
Creativity
Inclusive
This guy took Princes of the Apocalypse, a very dull and uninspired module, and he poured a ton of custom content into it. He fleshed out NPCs, developed the town and story according to our actions, and transformed the entire adventure into something that we recount as being one of our best adventures yet. And that was years ago. In the time since then, he has only gotten better and better at his craft. I highly recommend his games to anyone that wants epic and hilarious stories to tell years from now.
I've played 3 games for this DM over 6 years. Receptive - He's open to player opinions about the game, tailoring the campaign to maximize the players' enjoyment. He's also incredibly prompt in responding to messages, and proactively seeks feedback from player both prior to and throughout the campaign. Knowledgeable - This DM knows his stuff. He understands the mechanics and progression of each class, as well as a wide pool of spells and game mechanics. This makes him a great guide for players learning new classes, and speeds up gameplay with fewer "let me look that up" breaks. The games we played were all online, with players in different time zones. His organization and knowledge of our platforms made orchestrating and running games run smoothly. I never felt that being online in any way detracted from the experience. This is both a nod to his immersive storytelling and technical proficiency. Imaginative - He puts a lot of creative effort into his settings, NPCs, and political complexity. I came to every game excited to participate in a unique story, and frequently stayed after to have long conversations about the day's events. He also allows for a lot of player creativity. He's willing to make balanced changes to game rules, character builds, and occasionally action economy to make each player's character feel unique and allow fun things to happen. Yes, he's a fan of the "Rule of Cool", but I think it's important that he's also balanced and fair to all players.

How to prepare
You will need a discord and roll20 account to play, and I suggest having a dnd beyond account as well to gain access to the rule books. These are all free! You will also need a microphone, and I suggest investing in a decent one so we can hear you clearly. You do not need a podcasting mic, but you should have something other than just a laptop built in mic. Webcams are encouraged but not necessary if you prefer not to share video. Reading the rules or watching how to play videos is not necessary but highly encouraged. The better you understand your character's abilities the more fun you will have, instead of panicking on your turn because you don't know what to do. But even if you show up to the first game and don't even know what a d20 is, I'll walk you through it!
What I provide
I have over a decade of experience as a Dungeon Master, often running multiple games per week for a wide variety of players. I have hosted games for teenagers and adults new to TTRPGs, strangers online and in hobby stores, one shots and full campaigns. D&D is my hyper fixation, my job, and my life. I will immerse you into the world with ambient music, character voices, and artwork and maps for the setting. My combats are tactical and cinematic, their difficulty tailored for the group's enjoyment.
Gameplay details
During our session 0 we will discuss Lines and Veils and creating a game document of topics to avoid. At any time, I am open to feedback to craft a game tailored for player safety and enjoyment. Players can say, message, or hold up a sign in their video to interrupt the game if they are feeling uncomfortable with anything. My baseline rule is that we play in a world free of sexual violence. Not even the villains will use it as a threat, and any player who attempts to engage in it will be immediately ejected from the game. That said, we are playing a game about killing monsters. While I can tone down certain elements of violence (descriptions of injuries and blood) or remove certain scenarios (animal death, specific creatures like spiders/fiends) if you are completely opposed to the ideas of heroic adventurers using violence to defeat evil, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I prefer to keep my games at least PG-13 and enjoy combat and scary monsters.

How will character creation work
Character creation will be done during session 0 for those that need assistance, though I recommend that even veteran players hold off on choosing their exact character until meeting with the group to ensure party cohesion. We will be using the new 5e 2024 rules, using the standard array for ability scores, and starting at 1st level (for the first adventure at least). If veteran players have a specific build that requires anything but the new Player's Handbook, I will work with them to ensure its balanced properly for the game.
