🌱Drifters🌱: Season 1
Kids on Brooms | Campaign
About the adventure
Welcome to a world where magic isn’t just learned — it grows through you. In Drifters, you'll attend a sprawling coastal boarding school in a mystical realm. Here, magic is woven through ritual, craft, and community — but something dark stirs beneath the provincial serenity. Whispered rumors, corrupted spells, and mysterious earthquakes have begun to fray the edges of the school’s harmony. Players will take on the roles of young, newly discovered rare magic-users being drawn into a web of events that could unravel their newfound sanctuary. A story about growth, struggle, and discovering who you are — and where your place is — in a world that doesn’t always give you that choice. Inspired by the tone and heart of many popular YA-Fantasy series, with narrative and gameplay mechanics rooted in Kids on Brooms, I invite you to co-create a rich, emotional coming-of-age story that weaves together magic, ethical dilemmas, and unlikely friendships. All player levels welcome!
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

🛡 Safety Tools in Use: This game prioritizes player comfort, trust, and emotional safety. Magic can get intense, and adolescence isn't easy — so I make sure you’re always in control of your experience. Here are the tools we’ll use: 🧩 Session 0 Before play begins, we’ll have a collaborative session to build characters, set tone expectations, and establish comfort zones. This gives everyone a chance to shape the story together from a safe, shared foundation. 🚪 Open Door Policy You can step away from the game at any time, for any reason — no explanation needed. This includes short breaks, missing sessions, or leaving the game entirely. Your wellbeing always comes first. 🔥 Lines and Veils We’ll set boundaries together during session 0: Lines are hard limits — things we won't include in the game at all. Veils are topics that can exist in the world but will fade to black or happen offscreen. ✅ Monte Cook Consent Checklist A pre-game checklist I send you before Session 0 helps me identify what content you're okay with, what should be handled carefully, and what’s off-limits — no surprises, no pressure. 🛑 Breaks & Check-ins Breaks will be built into the session naturally, and anyone can call for an extra break at any time. I’ll also check in after intense scenes to make sure everyone’s okay. 💬 Debriefing At the end of each session, we’ll take a few minutes to reflect on what felt good, what didn’t, and anything we want to adjust moving forward. This helps keep the experience collaborative and evolving in a healthy way.

How will character creation work
During session 0 the group will have the opportunity to create characters for this campaign, with a six-stat ability spread that reflects a "trope" or "archetype" you've chosen to play as - or we create together. Coming into session 0 with a loose personality concept can help a lot! Example tropes: Lone Wolf, Queen Bee, Class Clown,Teacher's Pet, Etc. Experienced players are very welcome to bring an established character!
