About the adventure
Have you ever wondered what First Edition AD&D was like, or do you miss those Golden Years of your youth? Well, you've come to the right table! "THAC0 Rising" is an D&D campaign that uses both the AD&D and B/X rules to recreate the style and feel of Old School D&D. Through the clever use of mixed rules, you can experience what it was like to play First Edition, without all of the heavy math and record keeping. What the heck is "THAC0", you might be wondering. It stands for "To Hit Armor Class 0," and was the primary way to determine whether your attacks would score a hit or not. This somewhat confusing system was replaced with the more intuitive D20 System in Third Edition. So come join the fun as we explore classic adventure modules like "The Keep on the Borderlands," "The Isle of Dread," "In Search of the Unknown," the "Against the Giants" trilogy, the "Journey Into the Underdark" trilogy, and "Queen of the Demonweb Pits!" The dungeons await!
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Dungeon Crawl
A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

How to prepare
All you need to play are a Discord account, a working microphone and some means to keep a digital record of your character. A PDF character sheet will be provided if you do not have access to one.
What I provide
"THAC0 Rising" is a campaign setting in which players will experience the style and feel of Old School D&D without any of the heavy math and record keeping using pre-published adventure modules. Details on how to create a level 1 AD&D character will be explained during the Free Session 0. Gameplay will be solely on Discord (using a chat dice roller), and you will be provided with custom maps, session music, character voices - everything to make your time as immersive and fun as possible. This is a campaign designed with people new to AD&D in mind, and as such, the Rule of Cool takes center stage. Rules will be broken and/or ignored for the sake of entertainment.
Gameplay details
Very simply - My safety tools consist of Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist (filled out during Session 0), and use of X, N, and O cards. I keep an "open door" - meaning you can come to me at any time about any issue and I'll do my best to help you resolve it.

How will character creation work
During Session 0, players will be guided through creating Level 1 AD&D characters using the AD&D Player's Handbook. Ownership of this book is not required.
