Whispers of a Forgotten Legacy -- GURPS 4e Fantasy

GURPS | Campaign

About the adventure

In this campaign you will play as a fantasy character from your choice of one of two interconnected fantasy worlds (see campaign description below). • Both lands are at TL3 but are quite different in civilization and population. Characters will have no knowledge of technologies beyond TL4. • Magic is an available option in either land, doesn’t require an Unusual Background, and there are several available options for implementing magic. The most common is Magic as Skills from GURPS Magic/DFRPG Spells. • Allowable Character species/races are standard fantasy humanoids, that are not considered monsters, and do not have the ability to fly or glide. Racial packages will be worked out with me. • Starting Character Point value will be 150 CP, with -40 pts max in disadvantages, and -5 pts in Quirks. I will assign 1 to 3 character points after each session. • Characters will be created in a free program called GURPS Character Sheet during Session 0 and will be imported into Foundry. • Once logged into my Foundry server players will have no need to own any GURPS books. All of them are provided on the server. • Your character will begin play as an Eldorian native emerging in Orloth after discovering one of the magical portals, or a descendant of Eldorian immigrants in Orloth (see campaign description below). Adventures will take place in Orloth. Whispers of a Forgotten Legacy: A Tale of Hope in the Face of Oppression In the world of Eldoria, magic once flourished in perfect harmony with nature. But when the Mage Lords—tyrannical wizards—rose to power, they enslaved the land, quashing freedom and creativity. Rebellions emerged and were foiled, but a few secret portals to a distant land, Orloth, were created by the rebels. After centuries, those portals faded into myth, becoming nothing more than a distant legend. Now, your group of unlikely adventurers—dreamers, rebels, and truth-seekers—have discovered one of these portals. Rejecting the Mage Lords’ tyranny, you cross over to Orloth and find a world starkly different from your own. It’s a wild, untamed land dotted with independent city-states. Ancient ruins hide within the wilderness concealing strange technology, and echoes of an ancient civilization that fell to a devastating disease. As you explore, dark truths are uncovered about the land's collapse and the dangerous remnants of a society that once thrived on innovation. But you are not alone. The Mage Lords’ influence stretches even here, and Orloth's hidden dangers—cults, monsters, and deadly machines—await at every turn. Can you uncover the secrets of Orloth while avoiding the traps that destroyed its people? Will the Mage Lords learn of these portals and follow you? Your choices will shape the fate of two worlds. Grab your weapons, your gear, and your spellbooks because your adventure begins now.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Additional details

How to prepare

Headset and mic for Discord to avoid voice rebound. A Forge-VTT account (free). This is the site I'm using to host my Foundry game. A Discord account (free) A download of GCS. Link will be provided to players during Session 0 and is already provided on the Discord server. An overview of GURPS Rules, and Rules Links will be provided during Session 0

What I provide

Discord for Voice. Players will need a headset and mic so there's no voice rebound. I won't be using video, but players are free to go live on Discord if they choose. Foundry VTT--I provide character artwork and hex tokens if the players don't have them or would prefer I make them. GCS--GURPS Character Sheet. A program for making a GURPS character which is then imported into Foundry StartPlaying--to sign up. Obviously. Sound Effects, Music, and Ambient Sound? Yes, through Foundry. Voices? Yes, but I try not to do accents because I'm terrible at them and don't want to offend anyone. Intense Tactical Combat? Yes. That's where GURPS shines. As this is a game for new players, everyone will be patient and helpful to explain the ins-and-outs. Rule of Cool vs. RAW: Little bit of both. I'd like to stick to the rules but if it delays the game, then I'll just make something up and research it later.

How will character creation work

Character Creation in Session 0 during GCS Tutorial, and outside game sessions/between game sessions. Characters are created from scratch using 150 character points. I have 25 pre-made character ready (with artwork and hex tokens) which players can select from if they choose. If a character dies, the player can make a new character with the exact number of character points they had before.
