ACKSII: Defend the Borderlands
Adventurer Conqueror King | Campaign
About the adventure
Come play in a beginner friendly ACKSII campaign set in the Auran Empire, along the Borderlands. You will be adventures and would be heroes (or the children of past heroes) answering the call for help against the evils of the Empire. Fight kobolds, goblins, orcs, beastmen and worse while obtaining riches and glory. The campaign will have a mix of both high/dark fantasy, so magic (arcane and divine) will be a major part of the game, along with vile evils and eldritch horrors and even mysterious fae (good and bad). Concerning the fae, I'll be using some 3rd part/fan material in this campaign as well.
Game style
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
Dungeon Crawl
A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Storytelling
Fosters a very good table. No bickering among players, allows creativity while maintaining control and allows players to actually play. Probably the most fun I have had playing in years. He can control the table while letting players do their thing. That is not an easy task at all with so many different personalities.
My friend, Ross, has run several games for myself and both new and old friends, including The One Ring and Twilight 2000, 4th Edition. Especially when it comes to Tolkien-based games, he’s proven to be extremely knowledgeable and capable of providing an atmosphere that felt natural to the game, system, and world. If you have time to play and, if you can find him, you can hire Ross for your games.
When covid happened, several of a group of people who followed some mini painting streamers were lamenting the death of our in person games. Lando offered his services as a GM and had some environments built. I'll be honest, at the time I had no idea of what we were stumbling into, his simple comment has now been running for going on two years every other Friday, we've had some people drop out but he's always been able to find some others to join us, he is always prepared, has a plethora of things to draw from. Usually in my in person games after a while they get boring because there is only so much to draw from, but Lando has been playing this game since it was printed in black and white and has saved it all. He has a huge library of things to draw from, and has really made this something I look forward to every time its scheduled and only miss if something bad has happened. He really is the great at the virtual tabletop as well, the current game I'm playing with him is in Roll20 and he has tons of maps readied and has flipped them on very quickly so there are never really any lulls where we're waiting on technology unlike some other games I tried. Just can't rave about him enough. He was there when things got scary early in covid and his running of this game gave me a social circle still (besides work-from-home stuff) and to be honest when things were starting to get possibly that we could do in person, I didn't want to stop like I thought when this all started. It started out as a 'cool something to do to stay sane' and now is a staple in my calendar that I will say no to any other event to attend. I really hope you give him a try, he's not just a 5E DM either he runs a number of games in other systems as well, and has a collection of stuff to draw for them as well.

How to prepare
You will need a free account on The Forge hosting site and a free Discord account. You will need a decent computer with a decent internet connection, a headset/microphone etc.
What I provide
I have over 4 decades spanning a variety of editions of various TTRPGs. I am new to ACKSII, but the system is based on the bones of many systems I know well so it won't be hard for me to pickup and run. I will be using material from 3rd party/OSR as well. I enjoy story and player drive games with a good mix of combat, roleplay, some puzzles/riddles and other challenges. This game will be old school in style and feel so if you like games like B/X, OSE, AD&D and OSR then you will fit in well. I'll be running games on my personal Discord. I host my games on The Forge so we'll be using: Foundry VTT Discord (audio) i use battlemaps/tokens and have a large collection of both. I also will acquire maps etc. I can make/provide tokes for pcs if desired.

Session 0 will discuss themes and campaign content. As well as character creation. I will have X/N/O digital cards enabled in the VTT.
