Weird wilds and deadly dungeons! [LGBTQ+ and neurospicy]
Dungeons & Dragons B/X, Old-School Essentials | Campaign
About the adventure
Our campaign is a classic D&D adventure style game. PCs will be immersed in a fantasy world where they choose what to pursue. We begin with the characters traveling between a mysterious forest and the perilous mountains where they learn of possible adventures everywhere. This is a perfect game for new players or players curious about old-school play. Though dangers is ever-present and combat is assured, this is a game about enjoying the adventure, using your wits to solve problems and stay alive, and creating a story at the table. Notably, characters will not be over-powered heroes of this world but mostly ordinary people called to adventure by some personal circumstance. This is a “West Marches” style campaign where you can join at any time and miss any session without worry.
Game style
West Marches
West Marches games are typically ran as “drop-in / drop-out” campaigns, where a pool of players hop into sessions as they are available or as sessions align with their schedules. These games focus on a player-led story and exploration, with each session acting as a self contained adventure, allowing for players to experience a variety of stories within an overarching campaign.

How to prepare
You will need a mic (webcam is not necessary), a Discord account, and a Roll20 account. Before the first session you play, reach out to me and I’ll provide rules and answer questions.
What I provide
We will use a virtual tabletop (VTT) that will feature maps and tokens (and dice, if you need them). I have cheat sheets and material for players to get started quickly. I do the standard two DM voices: a New Jersey guy and a terrible English accent. I sometimes incorporate a lazy southern accent for NPCs. Where possible, I use ambient music and soundtracks but I’ve found that often what we need for the most player engagement is a good visual and story.
Gameplay details
I use Lines and Veils to learn what makes my players uncomfortable in order to avoid such features in the game. I will send a link to a Lines and Veils form before we begin. Additionally, we’ll use Stars and Wishes to discuss what you like and want to see more of as well as what you don’t care for and want to avoid. For the most part, this game will remain PG-13 in terms of its content.

How will character creation work
We’ll create characters through the standard creation method detailed in the Basic Rules (available here: https://necroticgnome.com/products/old-school-essentials-basic-rules). If you’re a new player, don’t worry, I can talk you through it and explain everything you’re looking at. I’d like to do this over discord before a player joins the campaign. If you like, you may use the character generator here: https://dndcharacter.com/. All of the basic and advanced classes are allowed as well as the Acolyte, Mage, and Wood Elf from the Carcass Crawler classes. When creating a character, bear in mind that this is not the over-powered fantasy of modern D&D. You should not prepare an intricate backstory. Level 1 is your backstory. Instead, you only need a detail or two about where your PC is from and why they would be an adventurer.
