Echoes of the Void | 1:1 D&D Asynchronous PbP Game
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
In the shadow of the Eternal Flame, the Obsidian Empire stands as a beacon of hope for civilization. Living in an era of darkness, the world beyond the Empire’s walls has become a treacherous expanse, teeming with beasts that defy nature. These horrors are born of the Void—a mysterious evil force that seeps into the land, corrupting all it touches. Into this world of ash and shadow, 3-6 adventurers are drawn, each carrying secrets of their past and a destiny intertwined with the fate of Obsidara. This long-term campaign will take players on a harrowing journey through the Thorned Wastes, the Scorchwind Barrens, and the Dark Forest, as they uncover the truth behind the Void. Along the way, they will face monstrous beasts, navigate political intrigue, and confront the darkest corners of their own souls. The fate of Obsidara—and perhaps the world itself—rests in their hands. Will they uncover the secrets of the Void and sever its hold on their world, or will they succumb to the darkness that threatens to consume everything they hold dear? The answers lie in the echoes of the Void, and the choices they make will shape the future of Obsidara forever.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
This game is 1:1 or one on one private game, rather than with a group.

How to prepare
At the start of our first session, please make sure you've read the information document and bring any ideas for your character backstory. Have a character sheet built and ready to play. If you are confused or need help, reach out to me before the game and I'd be happy to assist! We will be using dndBeyond, Roll20, and Discord. dndBeyond and Roll20 have digital dice options for those who don't have dice at home. Avrae Bot will also be on the server so that you can roll directly on the server with your character sheet for easy access! This campaign is text based, so you'll only need a computer or mobile device to play. I'll send pictures of maps as needed for those without access to a computer.
What I provide
I will be bringing detailed VTT maps for both battles and general roleplaying. I like to give a good idea to my players for what they’re able to interact with (without taking several minutes describing the whole scene for roleplay). I will also have rounded NPCs for your characters to interact with, and possibly fight! In addition, I'll be replying to posts on the discord server every day, with detailed information and incorporating NPC roleplay and responses throughout. These posts will use theater of the mind to describe the layout of areas, and have NPC's reply to questions and give information as needed.
Gameplay details
We will be using the Luxton Technique to determine lines and veils, and use X, N, and O cards throughout when we get into more difficult or harsh roleplay scenes. My games are centered around providing a safe and fun environment, so I take triggers and content warnings seriously.

How will character creation work
All ancestries and classes are allowed to be played. We will be using dndBeyond to create character sheets, starting at level 1. In addition to starting equipment, you’ll get any basic (nonmagical) armor of your choice, an uncommon magic item, and 50 gp. We'll be using 2024 D&D rules! Rolling for Stats: Using dndbeyond.com you will utilize the group rolling system. Select 3 groups and roll each one on the site. Once you have rolled out all your stats, pick one and assign each number to an ability. If you roll 3 sets that have multiple 7's, 8's or 9's, I'll let you roll one more time for a total of 4 sets. For HP, we'll be doing Fixed/Average HP. All character sheets must be created on dndBeyond. If you don’t have access to content for a specific class or ancestry, once you sign up and get added to my server I’ll send you a “campaign” link that will share my paid content with you. This way I can see your characters, and if I need to give you homebrew magic items or homebrew races, it will be much easier to set things up.
