About the adventure

This open world hex-crawl adventure weaves emergent storytelling and survival elements. Your choices and actions will shape the unfolding narrative and impact the world around you. Formoria is a dark and gritty region on the northern fringes of the known world, where remnants of civilization cling to the edges of a vast wilderness. Home to reclusive demi-humans, native Northlander tribes, and human settlers from the Great Southern Empires. The land bears scars of a great war that recently raged between the forces of Light and Shadow. Now, new threats are on the rise. The human and demi-human groups have come together in an unlikely alliance to form the Valiant Vanguard, an adventurer’s guild seeking to reclaim the land’s lost secrets in the fight against the forces of Shadow. Traverse treacherous terrain and endure deadly encounters as you navigate a realm teeming with danger. Explore ancient ruins, uncover hidden relics, and delve into the crypts of formidable foes. Interact with diverse factions and NPCs, each with their own motivations and agendas. Experience all three pillars of roleplaying - exploration, social interaction, and combat.

About me

I've been a lifelong fan of fantasy and adventure in many forms (movies, books, videos games, etc), but it wasn't until 2020 that I was introduced to the wonderful world of D&D. I quickly fell in love and TTRPGs have become my obsession in the time since. As my group neared completion of our first campaign, I began preparing to take into the mantle of DM for our next adventure. Stepping into this role provided me with a creative outlet that has been absent from my life for several years. In the time since I have been playing multiple games per week in different systems as both GM and player. Kelsey Dionne's 5e adventure "Ghostlight" was the first adventure I ever ran, as an intro adventure to Ghosts of Saltmarsh. Her writing style inspired me to be a day one backer of Shadowdark RPG, which upon release quickly won my heart and has become my game of choice. In my games you can expect a wide open world that will unfold for us all through emergent gameplay. Player choices and actions will shape both the adventure and the world around them.

Character creation
Creating your character

Character creation will be done in Foundry VTT Ancestry Options: Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, Halfling, Human, Northlander (Humans and Northlanders should be the most common) Population %s in Formoria: Human 50%, Northlander 20%, Dwarf 10%, Elf 7%, Half-elf 3%, Halfling 5%, Gnome 5% Roll a d100 to determine ancestry selection: 1-50 Human, 51-70 Northlander, 71-80 Dwarf, 81-90 Elf, 91-95 Halfling, 96-100 Gnome Gnome and Northlander ancestries are as follows: ----------------------------- Gnome Gnomes live a peaceful life in the forest among the sylvan creatures and fae. They have a natural talent for illusion magic. You know the Common and Elvish languages. Glamour: 1/day Gnomes can conjure a minor illusion. This creates a small silent, motionless visual illusion (no larger than their own body) that remains active for 5 rounds. Touching the illusion instantly reveals its false nature. ----------------------------- Northlander Barbaric human tribes native to Formoria, skilled in both combat and hunting. Their Seers are known to have direct connection to the Old Gods. You know the Common and Fjordlandish languages. Mighty. You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls with melee weapons.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Microphone required. Webcams are optional, but preferred. Players will need accounts for both: Discord & Forge https://forge-vtt.com/ Having a general understanding of the rules before hand is beneficial, but not required. Once you have joined I will advise you on character creation.

What GM Marshall brings to the table

We will be using Foundry VTT for maps and discord for chat. I will provide custom maps & tokens, music for ambiance, and fun voices for NPCs. Given the nature of Shadowdark's rulings over rules there will be a blend of rules as written and rule of cool at play.

Homebrew rules

I will be using a modified XP system that rewards things like exploration, completing quests, uncovering secrets, etc. in addition to treasure.
