Where Evil Lives! - Burnock Mill (5th-Level)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

The best dungeons have fun boss battles, exciting hazards, and, of course, awesome treasure. Where Evil Lives: The MCDM Book of Boss Battles has all that plus everything you need to run a lair out of the book in a moment’s notice. Use a dungeon when you have nothing else planned, or build an entire campaign that leads up to a climactic encounter in a lair! We’ve got 22 dungeons in here! There is at least one dungeon for each level of play from 2nd to 20th. Each lair contains… • a unique, action-oriented boss with memorable, dynamic villain actions. • every monster stat block you need to run the lair. That’s 151 unique stat blocks! • a treasure hoard tailored to the dungeon’s denizens that includes an original magic item plus other unique rewards. • a full-color map with links to a GM version that has all the information you need to run the dungeon and a player version that keeps those secret doors and traps hidden. • detailed descriptions of traps, hazards, and NPCs.

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Gameplay details

Gameplay Safety Tools: X, N, & O Cards During gameplay, X, N, and O Cards will be used for player comfort: X-Card: Stops the game immediately if a topic becomes uncomfortable. Players can signal this verbally, show it on video, or type an "X" in chat. N-Card: Indicates nearing discomfort, prompting a scene pivot or slowdown. An "N" typed in chat or shown on video works. O-Card: Indicates that players are good to continue or escalate intensity, especially useful in combat or suspenseful moments. To ensure privacy, players can also message these signals directly to me. Debriefing Following each session, I’ll lead a debrief to discuss highlights, challenges, and any points that might have felt intense or uncomfortable. This debriefing will help gauge the group’s comfort, gather feedback, and adjust future sessions to enhance everyone’s experience.
