Friday Night Frights | Season of Ghosts!

Pathfinder 2e | Campaign

About the adventure

Superstition and fate lie at the heart of life in Willowshore, a small riverside village hidden deep inside the Specterwood of Shenmen. Spring has come to a close, and with it, the time has come once again to appease the hidden horrors that reside within Shenmen. Your fellow villagers have chosen you to partake in the Reenactment Festival, and in turn, have placed their hopes and dreams for a future free from fear in your hands. The mists have begun to fade, swept away by the chill wind of the night. Children run and play by lantern light, joining the fellow Wailers who herald your "abduction" on behalf this years' chosen Ghosts. The image is comforting, one that you yourself have watched many times. Yet you can't shake the feeling that, perhaps, these efforts might not be enough... Join us for the Season of Ghosts - a year-long adventure told in four seasons that chronicles the story of Willowshore, its inhabitants, and the role you and your fellow companions will play in its salvation! - 🎲 Levels 1-12 - 🏮 Explore Tian Xia - 👹 Asian Horror - 🎭 Roleplay-Focused - 🔍 Mystery Abound - 🔰 Beginners Welcome!

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Ryan DM'd my first ever 5e campaign back in 2018 and I've been playing in his games ever since. He has a real gift for setting the scene and worldbuilding, whether it's for a one shot or a full adventure. I especially enjoy the way that he's able to weave his own visions into pre-written stories to create a truly unique experience. I've also had countless emotional and epic character moments where my backstory got to shine through, and personally that's my favorite thing about his GM style; he will invest in you as much as you invest in him.

When Ryan hosted the DnD campaign that allowed for even a new player like myself to get my feet wet with the role play, he helped me and the other players to really dive into our characters and get over the initial hesitation that can oftentimes arise the first time you sit down with a group and play out your character.

Does a great job of setting up the atmosphere through music, and describing what characters see visually. Has the ability to add in various hooks to attach players backstory and connections with each other seamlessly into a pre built module to where it felt as if it was written into the module itself. Combat situations have been challenging, yet very fair and rewarding.

He knows how to incorporate player backstories organically into the overarching story without it feeling forced, allowing players to feel more invested into exploration and investigation. Combat is fair, with him not pulling punches but leaning into the "rule of cool" for scenarios. I'm only rating 4/5 because I haven't played very long with him (only a few months), but I'll probably come back and give another review once we game more and have tried out more unique encounters.

Had a great time playing Menace Under Otari with Ryan! More than patient with everyone while we went through the growing pains of learning a new system and happy to help with any rule questions that cropped up!
