Obojima | Legend In the Mist
Legend in the Mist | Campaign
About the adventure
Embark on an unforgettable journey to Obojima, a whimsical island where the lines between the physical and spirit realms blur, and adventure awaits at every turn. Inspired by the worlds of Studio Ghibli, Legend of Zelda, and Avatar the Last Airbender, Obojima offers a setting rich with breathtaking landscapes, curious spirits, and remnants of ancient technology reminiscent of the 1980s. What adventure will we be playing? That depends on who you create! During Session 0, we’ll build custom characters, forge their relationships, and craft a story driven by your character’s goals, background, and personal arc. The entire campaign is shaped around your choices. Expect slice-of-life charm, whimsical spirit encounters, and the occasional eerie mystery or lost ruin. The tone ranges from heartwarming to bittersweet, always grounded in character and wonder. This campaign will run for 10–15 sessions—enough time to explore the world, master the system, and tell a meaningful, collaborative story from start to finish. In this campaign, we will use the Legend in the Mist RPG system—a narrative-driven framework that blends cinematic storytelling with elegant mechanics. Designed to evoke the wonder of myth and the thrill of discovery, this system empowers players to shape the world through their choices while keeping gameplay fluid and immersive. Whether you're a seasoned role-player or new to tabletop adventures, Legend in the Mist ensures that every session is dynamic, emotionally resonant, and deeply collaborative.
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
The game will run on a 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off schedule. Set to kick off in May 2025 and run for 10 to 15 sessions. All necessary books and materials will be provided after sign-up. This game is built around collaborative storytelling, character interaction, and shared spotlight. You don’t need to be a voice actor or am improv master, but you should be excited to speak in character (even just a little), connect with others, and help drive the story forward. If your character is designed to be isolated, silent, or remove themselves from the group (whether by personality or ability), this probably isn’t the right fit. This game and table is best fit for players who want to contribute, build together, and be part of something meaningful.

Storytelling
I had the pleasure of being part of her Electric State campaign. She expertly balances the story by allowing the players to guide the narrative while using the dice to add tension at just the right moments. Her role-playing skills are exceptional, and her scene descriptions are deeply immersive. I highly recommend Maia if you're looking to immerse yourself in a character and truly become that character.

How to prepare
All you really need is: 1. A serviceable mic. 2. Read through the Obojima setting book (I’ll provide it) — focus on the locations, cultures, and races so you can start imagining where your character comes from. 3. Skim the LiTM core rules (I’ll provide it) if you have time, but don’t stress — I’ll walk everyone through it, and it’s easy to pick up after a session or two. 4. Most importantly, come ready to collaborate and help shape the story!
What I provide
As your Game Master, I emphasize storytelling that delves into political drama, social connections, and intricate mysteries. Expect to encounter dynamic NPCs, forge meaningful alliances, and make impactful choices that shape the world around you. I also enjoy integrating character backstories into the main plot, making sure that each player's journey feels personal and significant. Other things I add to elevate the experience: Music, ambience, and overlays.

How will character creation work
We’ll handle character creation together during Session 0. This session will be all about building your characters, making connections between them, and helping shape the world with your ideas. We’ll use the Legend In the Mist RPG (core rulebook provided), and I’ll guide you through all stats and mechanics. Please read the first chapters of the Obojima setting book beforehand (I’ll provide it) — it’ll give you a great feel for the world. If you’ve got some free time, watching a couple of Studio Ghibli films will also help spark the right tone and inspiration.
