Golarion Adventures: Sky King's Tomb

Golarion Adventures: Sky King's Tomb

Pathfinder 2e | Campaign

About the adventure

Millenia ago, the dwarven creator god Torag shook the earth and called the dwarves to the surface in the Quest for Sky. Taargick rose from the hardships of this journey, becoming the Sky King of Highhelm. For centuries he ruled, creating monuments to Torag and the accomplishments of his people…and then he vanished without a trace. Invited guests of the clans of Highhelm find themselves embroiled in a story of seekers, survivors, and heroes discovering the Sky King's Tomb. - - - Invited to a prestigious storytelling festival in Highhelm, the greatest dwarven city, adventurers explore every corner of the metropolis to build their own legends. Sky King's Tomb is an adventure path that will take PC's from 1st to 10th level. New players and veterans are welcome! Session 0 is free.

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

How to prepare

⚔️ A ForgeVTT account is required for this game. ⚔️ A Discord account is required for this game, as well as a working microphone. I will give you an invite to the server we will be using. ⚔️ Make sure you download and read through the AP's Player's Guide (https://downloads.paizo.com/SkyKingsTombPlayersGuide.pdf), as it will come in handy for character creation and understanding the setting. - - - ⚔️ OPTIONAL ⚔️ If you have access to it, the Lost Omens: Highhelm book offers a more in-depth view of the city where the majority of the AP is set in. It is not required reading, or even to know anything about Highhelm prior to the game. I am just giving you the option if you are a lore nerd, like myself.

What I provide

Gameplay details

⚔️ As a GM, I usually give my players a mid-game break (15-20 minutes) to go to the bathroom, get a drink or some food, talk about what's going on, and share ideas or criticism with me. I am very open and easy to talk to, so don't be afraid to voice and concerns at this point. ⚔️ If IRL obligations come up mid game, let me know before you bow out, or message me when you can. Life happens, and I know it all too well. ⚔️ After the game, I try to talk to my players to see if they are enjoying themselves or if there is anything I can do to help them enjoy the game in the future. Again, I am an open person, so don't hesitate to let me know if anything is happening with the game you want me to address. ⚔️ If something that is happening in the game upsets you, please let me know and I will tone it down to the best of my ability, or if you don't want to break the immersion, you are free to PM me and step away. I understand certain topics of discussion may want to remain private, and I understand. ⚔️ In Session 0, we will cover player introduction, character creation, and our Lines and Veils. I will also bring up a couple of things to be voted on for gameplay, as well as a optional homebrew system that will be described below. ⚔️ I offer an open door if you wish to discuss stuff outside of the game (such as character ideas, side-plot hooks, build help, etc.), as well as being here if you have any concerns over anything that happens outside of the game that may impact the game. I am very approachable, so don't feel intimidated over messaging me. ⚔️ As a bit of forewarning, and we will vote on it in Session 0, I am a slow note-taker, and to compensate for that I like to record my sessions so I have something to look back on for myself. If you don't like that please let me know at Session 0.

How will character creation work

We will use standard character creation for the campaign. Pathbuilder is available for use if you are having trouble, but Foundry offers a pretty automated character sheet for you. Common options are all readily available; Uncommon and Rare will need to be approved, but most likely will if they fit the campaign. Can't really play a Merfolk while the whole campaign takes place underground, right? - - - ⚔️ OPTIONAL ⚔️ A homebrewed system I have been working on is Random Character Generation. I offer it as an alternative if you don't know what to play, or want a completely random, unknown experience for your character. What this entails is that you roll on a few tables for your Ancestry, Heritage, Background, and Class. All these options are limited to the Sky King's Tomb Player's Guide (with Remastered options in place of Legacy options), so it won't get super wacky. There is a trade-off, as this option is subject to the "Alternate Ancestry Boosts" rule, where you forgo the normal boosts/flaws, and instead get 2 free boosts with optional flaws. This way, you have more control over the stat distribution.
